Heightened gang violence in the neighborhood near U.S. Embassy compounds and near the airport led to the State Department's decision to arrange for the departure of additional embassy personnel," the embassy, based in Port-au-Prince, said in a statement on Sunday.

Earlier this month, armed gangs orchestrated jailbreaks from Haiti's two largest prisons and demanded the resignation of the Caribbean nation's prime minister, Ariel Henry. The Haitian leader is not currently in the country, and is petitioning the international community for a United Nations-backed security force to step in.

Imagine being selected to work at that embassy. No thanks.

Is Haiti being a disfunctional state still France's fault? Or are things evident enough the problem can be discussed reasonably?

Haiti is an island. This could make for a great social experiment. Let them fight.

Well except for the other half that of the island. Which is a pretty awesome place.

Recolonization is the only solution for Haiti. They have proven they are incapable of governing themselves

I know it’s not protocol and frowned upon but when it gets to that point, bring in groups like black water.

Let them take a few days and knock down quite a few violent folks and it will chill out for a while.

The reason why it’s gotten so bad is because there is nothing that is able to stand against the groups causing the problems

That has to be one of the worst job locations ever.
I don’t think anybody really visits there, so maybe it super chill? Until now anyway .

It's only half an island, and we've kinda been doing that. Maybe we should just let the fight finish -- as long as other countries do the same.

Glad we sent those billions there for the Clinton foundation to manage. Seems like they did a great job. I’m so sick of lighting my tax money on fire.

“pretty awesome”?

In comparison to Haiti but not the rest of the Western Hemisphere.

When there was all the reconstruction after the big earthquake years back, State Department wanted me to go down there to handle some management oversight at several spots around the country. I was asked because I was semi conversant in Cajun French and they figured I could talk to the locals in their gibberish Creole. It was a voluntary posting. I said sure. I want an armored vehicle of some kind (HUMVEE), authorization to carry a weapon and sleeping quarters on Embassy grounds inside the secure perimeter.

They responded with no weapon, a commercial open top Jeep and a room in a local hotel.

I told them frick No.

Haiti, like another country I've heard of before, was ruined by importation of slaves from Africa.

Wait, all of that Clinton Foundation money after the earthquake didn’t solve all of Haiti’s problems?

It’s not your fault, it’s the greedy morons in DC that have been doing that for the last 50-60 years, and no end appears in sight.
