Remember when Trump was criticized for calling Haiti a s-hole country? Guess he was right.

No but it did solve a lot of the Clinton’s money problems after his presidency.

It's been convenient for TPTB to overlook the start of the current Haiti in the slave revolt that drove out anyone with white blood if they weren't killed first.

There's a g- word for what they did, but we won't use it.

When that happened Haiti was the richest most productive country in the Carri bean.

My grandfather ran the US consulate in the Dominican Republic when one of the more recent (1900's) Haitian uprisings happened. His equivalent in Haiti was from a famous New England family. The happenings strongly afftected the way my Grandfather looked at racial problems.

Is Haiti being a disfunctional state still France's fault?

Haiti got its independence back around the war of 1812.

Blaming the French for Haiti being the biggest dumpster fire in the western hemisphere is like blaming James Madison for the US federal deficit.

Whats sad is that during the French occupation Haiti was one of if not the single wealthiest colonies in the Western Hemisphere. The British would’ve walked away from the US in a heartbeat if they could’ve traded it for Haiti and the associated sugar trade profits.

Just have to avoid those pesky once-a-generation military coups and brief authoritarian government period. If you make it to the counter-coup, you’ve got a couple decades in the clear to enjoy the beaches

In a way, yes.

France and Spain split the island of Hispaniola. They both shipped in workers to fill out their sugarcane plantations. The Spanish brought in a mix of Spaniards, common criminals, and indigenous people from throughout the Americas.

The French brought in Africans.

And that, as they say, is that.

Haiti learned that genociding all the white people out of your country doesn’t work out too well in the long run. The Haitian Revolution was brutal and we should still let them rot in hell over it.

That explains why whenever I see pictures of Haitian people they look dark like Africans.

Who would have thought that destroying two centuries of physical and intellectual capital with no plan to replace it was a bad idea??

All the while slaughtering the citizens and representatives of the only nations capable of assisting in redevelopment.

Brilliant stuff indeed.

On paper sure. In the same way that Yemen and Niger are “countries”.

This is Haiti’s tourism slogan since 1791.

Eta: Mike Duncan’s Revolutions podcast has a season on Haiti that’s pretty short and well done. (At least short compared to the French and Russian Revolution seasons) Think it’s season four. Worth a listen if historical podcasts are your thing.

Why would we have ANY ESSENTIAL people there?

Zero reason to have people there. Let the Clinton foundation fix it, they have billions.
