The west coast has been ultra liberal for a greater amount of time. The majority of people all lean the same way.
The south is usually split pretty evenly across demographics when it comes to politics. There is more of a no-nonsense culture still alive in the south

They have been receiving those complaints for years IIRC, mainly with people using the bathrooms as shooting galleries.

The undesirables congregate around Starbucks because they instituted a corporate policy a few years ago that allows anyone to use their bathrooms.
The high volume of foot traffic in and around their type of business was already a beacon for panhandlers. Their desire to be more woke and inclusive has backfired.

Racetrac appears to have similar issues on a few levels, hence why someone got shot at the one on Essen in a drug theft a few months back.

Hippies settled in communes on the West Coast (Washington, Oregon and Cal) in the 60s and 70s. When their communism failed they took their socialism to the cities of the West Coast and destroyed them.

San Fran is only 6% black. Allowing for a decent number of Asians, the make up of the city is white liberals / leftists. Twitter employees, being interviewed re Musk's possible take over this past Spring, openly bragged about being communists who do not believe in capitalism. Do the millions of homeless vote? Doubtful. So, again, you are left with white libs/leftists.

Drugs have been decriminalized in Oregon and it has made the state a magnet for junkies and tweakers. But junkies aren't allowed to just shoot up wherever they want. That's why there is such a problem with them doing it in public restrooms here.
