100% RPTG
100% Reporting

RPTG is an abbreviation for Reporting. In context to that image, it’s saying 100% of voting precincts are reporting their vote totals and that St. George won the election.

If something happened to a StG resident downtown they should wait till the Sheriffs show up?
I was robbed in Slidell 2 weeks ago and it took forever for an EBR deputy to get there. Then, when he did, he acted all pissed off at having to do his job.

This is what a dumb take looks like. It doesn’t make up for the fact that St. George is paying taxes to the city to pay for a fire department that doesn’t serve them. They have to pay extra, on top of what they’re already paying, to hire the private St. George Fire District. It’s taxes for services they aren’t eligible to receive.
This is also fallacious though. The taxes are in question are sales taxes. Do you suppose nobody from the city is paying sales taxes in the unincorporated parts of the parish? And if they are then city resident sales taxes would be propping up St George would they not?

All this could have been avoided. The people of St. George just wanted better schools and wanted an ISD like Central and Zachary. They were told to fly a kite and the only way to do so was form their own city. So thats what they are trying to do.
I don't understand the thinking EBR has great schools and no need for improvement.
Correct.
This should have never happened.

Or you could move to an area that wants to better their community

Why arent current St George residents taking any blame for electing those same officials who put EBR residents in this position?
Do you know how districts work?

Fire dept was not what I was referring to. The police was the point. Not fire.

That seems like a service to StG residents.

What a doofus.

Life ain't easy.
I am moving to an area soon that is better for my family. It will be very tough, but I know I need to do it.

Most services are Parishwide including BREC (parks), DPW (roads and drainage), EBRPLS (libraries), CATS (mass transit), EBRPSS (schools). Sheriffs handle unincorporated areas, and the BR City police handle within the city limits (Baker, Zachary, and Central all have their own police departments within their borders as well). Fire is also handled by the municipal governments, not the parish, with the unincorporated areas paying for private fire protection (St. George Fire District).
So, it makes little sense for sales taxes to be going to the Baton Rouge City General Fund when there are so many parish wide responsibilities it could be used to pay for. I know BREC, Libraries, and schools have their own dedicated property tax millages, but why not use sales taxes more for DPW?
Why was any of St. George’s revenue going into the Baton Rouge city’s general fund which could only be used on city, not parish-wide, obligations?

That seems like a service to StG residents.
A service that is paid for when items are purchased in the city of Baton Rouge:
The minimum combined 2020 sales tax rate for Baton Rouge, Louisiana is 9.95%. This is the total of state, parish and city sales tax rates. The Louisiana sales tax rate is currently 4.45%. The East Baton Rouge Parish sales tax rate is 0%. The Baton Rouge sales tax rate is 5.5%.

How about you respond to my post saying what about BR residents eating in St George? Should they not get the same benefit? This one sided bias and elitism that some BR people have is unreal. STG residents paid for ALL of these services for DECADES and didn't receive anything. How would you feel if BR paid for St George Police and Fire moving forward without receiving any of their services? Does that seem fair? The blindness on some of you is baffling.

BRFD is still a fair topic as well.
IIRC, BRFD and BRPD are guaranteed about 55% of the general fund by statute.
StG is responsible for about $64m in general funds, give or take, since they don’t get dedicated funds until the incorporation is finalized.
BRPD nor BRFD service St George.
Due to the funding laws, the status quo provides those organizations with roughly $35.2m in funding annually for services they don’t need to provide.
Because of that, I don’t feel a lot of sympathy for BRFD’s fire rating being endangered since these areas have been paying for StGFD or Eastside AND BRFD for years while only getting the benefits of StG or Eastside.
On top of that, these organization KNEW the incorporation petition was out there and were warned they may have to budget for less than they normally receive, yet they budgeted based on the status quo because that’s what the mayor told them to do.

Parish law said only incorporated cities got dedicated funds.
At the time of the merger, the only incorporated cities were Br, Baker, and Zachary. Central incorporated in the past 20 years or so.

Are you pretending that this represents some sort of loss for the city of Baton Rouge? All of the activities you listed are major revenue generators that bring tax dollars far in excess of services provided. The service provided is to the tax generating business entities of the city of BR, not to people that come in from outside the city to spend their money.
Extraordinarily simple minded take.

I know why they are doing it. I’m pointing out that they obviously shouldn’t be using money collected from outside of municipalities to fund services only in said municipalities. If the service is only within the city limits, then only those inside the city limits should have to pay for it.

Police departments don't normally provide services to visitors of their cities? That's an interesting take
