Is it still the judge that lives in St George?

I figured something was going on. I saw all the rebel flags outside the courthouse

Can't believe BR residents are cool with their government trying to obstruct something that the public voted on.

They are upset because, although never in the history of this state has an incorporation effort ever been voted on by anyone outside of the proposed city limits, they didn't get to vote in the election.

Why should you get a vote on whether an area can incorporate that you don't live in?
Posted on 3/2/20 at 11:05 am to J Murdah
Just bc it indirectly effects you doesn’t earn you a vote

the procedure is the procedure. do you want a special one just for BR(city) residents? why are they special within the state of LA?
also, if this has an effect on your future, that's b/c the city government of which you are apart has failed you. your proper response is to use the procedures allowed within the city to enact differences in the representation/government

If you are not a part of the St. George territory boundaries, then no. It does not affect you. Now if you are about to reply with, "it will drive up my tax dollars in BR, and lower my property values". Well that, you need to take up with your city government.
It's time the people of St. George's tax dollars works for them, not for the city of baton rouge's general fund.

False. Taxing shenanigans had sales taxes collected in the unincorporated areas flowing into the City’s General Fund paying for city services (police and fire) which the unincorporated areas weren’t receiving. How this was ever legal is beyond me, but once St. George happens, those dollars are diverted from the City of Baton Rouge’s General Fund to the City of St. George’s General Fund. This will strain the City’s ability to fund BRPD and BRFD specifically.

The issue is that people have businesses in St George but might live elsewhere. Those people didn’t get a say in the matter and might not want the uncertainty of a new city that they didn’t choose to operate their business in. It was forced on them without a say (vote).
Also, the law that lays out how a city can be formed says that (paraphrasing here) those who might be affected by the formation of the new city have grounds to sue to stop the formation of said city. Granted that is wide open to interpretation but that is what the law is.

How did every other incorporation ever in this state get past this? Oh the horror.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong or if I agree with it or not, but that is one of the complaints.
