And?

One poster was asking why shouldn’t city people have a say when the St. George vote effects them. Another poster said it only effects those living in St. George. I showed how it effects those living in BR City. F$&k the metro council for enabling the city to essentially run the unincorporated areas as a tax colony, extracting revenue without providing services.

This shite will be drawn out for years while the taxpayers foot the bill for the law suit. Lawyers are the only ones winning in this for a while.

I'm trying hard to figure out why the people of St George should care about this, but I'm not coming up with anything.

Yes, and my point, is that this is not a SG problem. This is a BR problem. You are correct about SG being used as a tax haven for BR proper. However, BR should have never done this in the first place, therefore there funding would have been secure even with a SG incorporation. This is a "bad city management" problem, not a "it's SG's fault BR is run shitty" problem. Not saying you think that.

Preaching to the choir. We cannot act like there won’t be negative consequences for the residents and government of Baton Rouge. However, those consequences are clearly well deserved.

In most cases, I’d agree with you, but not here. Baton Rouge earned this one big time. They were offered multiple olive branches (VERY reasonable ones, mind you), but the city’s leaders decided to act like petty children instead. They deserve to have their noses rubbed in this one.

BR residents should have that same mentality towards the city government.

Exactly what bob said, they were told this would happen and just told residents to essentially frick off

It's reality. Blame Baton Rouge city government. It's not the SG taxpayers fault that BR was using SG tax dollars inappropriately.

And if you believe the better together idiots, then there should be absolutely no problems with funding the fire and police. They've repeatedly stated that the city of SG can't fund itself, and went so far as annexing only the businesses within the SG boundaries.

The reality, is that both you and I know, that SG can sustain itself, will be run more efficiently, and may not require additional taxation. BR is just angry they can no longer use our tax dollars the way they use tax dollars to run CATS or the council of aging. Everyone knows the problem. Vote for Democrats, expect Democrat results.

The BR government officials created this problem for themselves.

x100!

Unhappy with where this leaves you? Demand reform. Hell the entire parish should trash the consolidated government. This could all have been prevented.

Still not sure why SWB is fighting this. She got the city she wanted and dreamed about. Time for her to kiss whitey and his tax money goodbye.

so I deserve the negative consequences even though I've done my part to vote for things that would better our community? Got it. Gonna go tell my children now that all the bad things that are going to happen to us in the future is because we deserve it.

Hate that "lets continue to screw over other people so me and mine can keep the status quo" mentality.

BR city taxes will go up because St. George has been unfairly footing the bill for the large percentage of non-tax payers in NBR.

If BR had a proper system in place, the decrease in tax revenue would be offset by the decrease in services they no longer have to provide.

Exactly. But somehow, that's SG residents problem that Broome and the rest of the idiots running the city, run the city like the corrupt ignorant dumbasses they are.

Glad you understand. No honest person would ever feel good about improving their personal situation by stealing from their neighbors.

BRPD, BRFD, and the City’s Rec Centers (not part of BREC) have been creatively embezzling money from the city general fund for years, mostly to pay for fraudulent OT pay (used to boost salary used to calculate owed pensions at retirement) and to provide cushy jobs to relatives of judges and metro council persons.

Without St. George’s sales tax revenue, that City General Fund is insolvent, and they will have to cut out their corruption or seriously take a hatchet to already under-manned and under(base)-payed BRPD. They got caught robbing the cookie jar, but now there’s no more cookies to eat.

Do you live in STG but have kids in BR magnet schools or something?

ERB residents have been "unfairly" doing the same thing. Dont act like just because you landed in the STG boundary that you are a fricking hero
