Took me 2 years and thousands of dollars to get them out.
Everyone will tell you not to poison them since they will rot in your house. Eventually you won't care and will try anything.

My aunt told me she's had good luck with the noise devices that project at a frequency that humans can't hear, says that drove them out. But might frick with your pets though.

Sure it is squirrels and not rats? Need to get them out first. Then close off all entry locations. Then out traps you check for about a week. Then you are good.

Plug the hole that they’re entering
This, but after you make sure they aren't in there at the time.
Put some ammonia soaked rags in the area they're getting into. Run them out, then seal the entrance. Then, trap them in a live trap. Good luck not trapping a skunk.
FYI: It is illegal to trap and release wild animals onto other's property. Be careful when releasing them because some a-hole can cause you problems.

Find their nest and dump an entire box of cayenne pepper into it. I had to use a long stick with make shift cheese cloth bag and kept shaking it into the nest.

Set your house on fire. That will do the trick.

$3000 worth of screens around your ridge vents.

You're OK if you have dogs.
Cats can hear it.

Google roof rats
If you can hear them up in the attic, it’s not squirrels. It’s roof rats battling over territory.

Look up rodent excluders - relatively cheap. Solves the problem of them dying inside. Find the hole they are using, install the excluder which is basically a one way gate that lets them out but not back in. If there are multiple holes fix all but one and install the excluder on the last one.

Be careful if it's one of these (Sciurus tigris):

Decent chance it’s roof rats. Pay someone to come in and get rid of anything that moves up there.

Animal trap and relwas elsewhere. People will tell you to shoot them but who wants to post up for that
Trap or shoot and put them in a pot.

In the eaves, where shadows dance,
A tale unfolds of wild advance.
Squirrels in the attic, a secret brigade,
Their tiny paws on a serenade.
Gotta ask - Is that an original work or is the work of another? Either way I think it is great work.
