Blaming climate change for the *start* of any wildfire is retarded, and it causes alarmists to lose out of the gate.

Our climate has always produced conditions that are more prone to wildfires. Drought, wind, low and humidity have been problems when they occur together for all of time. It is that climate, whether it is changing or not, that drives these fires. The climate has nothing to do with how or why wildfires start. In this debate it doesn't matter how the fires start — though the overwhelming majority are human-caused, whether from negligence or malice. The climate provides the conditions for those fires to grow and spread, that is role.

This is more of a "chickens coming home to roost" deal. People live on a landscape that evolved with fire, it thrives on fire, and it needs fire. Yet, since the Big Blowup of 1910 that burned a huge swath in Idaho, Montana, and Washington — becoming the most pivotal wildfire in our country's history in the process — we have taken on the endeavor of suppressing practically every fire across that landscape. You know this effort/policy by the friendly bear and his slogan, "Only you can prevent wildfires!". So, we started putting out fires......all the fires.

At the same time our population, especially in the western part of the country, began to boom. As the people came, land was cleared and housing went up. Then, as building engineering and technology advanced, allowing for cheaper home construction in more remote areas, that population began to move further and further into the wilderness, bringing its lifestyle with it. That put humans and their often lackadaisical and under educated view of their role and place within an ecosystem in direct conflict with that landscape. This brought many more opportunities for fire and the desire to put out even more of the fires in even more remote areas.

The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) is where an expanding population has found itself. That wilderness will continue to function as it has for eternity. Wildfires aren't going away, whether the climate is "changing" or not. People in greater numbers than ever before will have to deal with that reality. Changes will have to be made to the way people in the WUI live just as changes to how with fight and control wildfires will have to be made. Keep doing the same thing and we will continue having these high impact fires.*
