Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

quote:

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Thousands of Southern Baptists overwhelmingly voted Wednesday to advance a formal ban on women pastors in the nation’s largest Protestant denomination, sending a clear message that men alone should preach to these conservative evangelical congregations.

The amendment would tighten existing restrictions in the Southern Baptist Convention, which already has a faith statement opposing women pastors.

The vote was 6,028 to 2,026 — a 3-to-1 margin — which easily exceeded the required two-thirds majority. It will require a similar two-thirds vote at next year’s meeting to become part of the constitution.

quote:

A debate Wednesday over the location of a future SBC annual meeting took longer than the debate over women pastors.

If they were then I would've saved a lot of money on a divorce.

Blue haired morbidly obese fat women with septum rings that have never, and will never, set foot inside of a church of any kind, much less Baptist, will be very, very angry on the internet about it.

meanwhile the methodist church has women gays leading sermons talking about how Jesus would be pro-abortion. How anyone could profess to be a Christian but then follow the Methodist church is beyond me.

Not that I really care since I'm an atheist.

But does anything in the Bible really say that religious leaders have to be men, or has that just come to be tradition?

1 Timothy 2:12, the Apostle Paul writes, "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet".

quote:

1 Corinthians 14:34-35, where he says:

“The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.”

Oh, so that refers to men's authority in general, not just in the church sphere.

Anyway, I wish that my wife would follow that instruction and be quiet.

I was reading through some facebook comments for fun last night.

The women who supported the SBC's ban made logical arguments and always backed it up with scripture.

The women who opposed were overly dramatic and slighted, using strawman arguments as if women wouldn't be allowed serve in any role at the chruch. They were constantly saying "But what about Ruth? What about Esther? What about Mary?" etc.
None of the Biblical women they used as an example acted in a pastoral position. Their comments in support of female pastors just proved that they aren't suitable.

The women who don't want female pastors would have made a better pastor than the women who want female pastors.

Ruth and Esther (like most people in the Bible) are probably fictional characters.

But Christianity teaches that they're real. And if they could be religious leaders, then I'm not sure why women can't be pastors. They are basically supposed to have been ancient equivalents of pastors.

It shows there is still a liberal faction rooted in there that if left unchecked will continue to grow in that over 2,000 delegates voted against it.
