This chart represents opiate overdose death rates over time in the US

We are now losing over 40k Americans every year due to opiate overdose. Where is the panic over the real killer? COVID will come and go but those death numbers aren't going to change significantly.

Many people have lost loved ones to this terrible epidemic which goes pretty much ignored by our government except for pushing medication assisted treatment.

Doesn't make for a good sound bite to get dem clicks yo.

And for the media, that's really all it's about.

Virtually everyone on drugs voluntarily does them. No one gets C19 on purpose. You also can’t spread drug usage via contact or through the air.

It was all that was talked about until this shite broke out.

Sweeping changes in opiate use and management were made. It only brought us a heroin boom, fentanyl abuse, chinese fentanyl, and carfentanyl (sp?).

Didn’t realize being a pill head is contagious.

Where have you been getting your news that you have not seen reports on the opioid crisis? People have been panicked for years. Purdue is bankrupt and other companies are paying massive settlements. It’s not contagious, so we cannot quarantine then hold world from drug addiction.

Yes, you see my friend you miss the whole point about drug overdoses not being contagious.

Would you freak out when an opiate impaired driver injured someone you love?

What are you talking about? Trump announced $1.8 billion in funding to combat the Opioid crisis just last year.

I think coronovirus totally overblown.

But, to equate to voluntary drug use/misuse isn't reasonable at all.
I feel bad for drug addicts and their families.
But, they do it to themselves.
It's not an infectious disease.
Or any sort of disease for that matter.

When hydrocodone was changed from a C-III to a schedule C-II,the o.d. rate skyrocketed because of heroin, fentanyl, etc.

We had the draft during the Vietnam era. It is an all volunteer military now. Think of Corona as the draft, and drug addiction as volunteer.

Well if an addict touches my shopping cart at the grocery store and I touch it, rub my face and two weeks later hug my elderly cancer patient Mom who then dies 2 weeks later from opioid abuse, (a total of nearly 4 weeks later from my shopping trip), then hell yeah I’m worried.

Probably should shut down Hollywood since lots of their actors die from it

Not disagreeing with your overall point but you could make the case that spring breaker or any of the folks at that church in/near (can't recall exactly where) essentially got it on purpose or at least were asking for it.
