Could it be that Columbus discovery can be traced much closer to the first permanent settlements and European influence on North America?
In theory, sure. In practice, it was driven essentially entirely by first generation Italian immigrants.

It's only because of Italian pride and propaganda. It really makes no other sense.

Because it's not about who got here first, obviously people already lived here, but about who discovered it first FOR Europe. Which was Columbus.
Leif Erickson's discovery, and the possible other people who made their way to the new world, did not lead to massive colonization like Columbus.

Who were there because Columbus started the colonization movement.
If more Norse had followed in Leif’s footsteps then there would have been Norse here to advocate for Leif day.
But they didn’t. So it’s not Leif day.

Neither Leif nor Chris stepped foot in the US of A. Shouldn’t have a federal holiday for either of these Eurotrash bums.

I've always thought that Columbus was the spitting image of my great aunt Josephine (RIP).

Because if a Viking fells a try in the woods and no one bothers to record it, did it really fall.

Honky...I mean Caucasians didn't "discover" a dam thing.
Piss poor border protection.

Congress gave him a day, but you missed it. It was on October 9th.

I did, Italian American pride and propaganda. Im being honest, look it up.

Did the Vikings coming to America open it up to anyone else or have any notable effect? Columbus’s discovery completely changed the entire world and the course of humanity. That’s why it’s noteworthy.
