There are entire vocations in which people need to be able to read analogue instruments. I don’t think this analogy works.

I bet this would make their heads explode.
It's today's world. I see toddlers at church proficiently using an iPad, yet there is a substantial number of adolescents and adults who can't read an analog clock.

Einstein did say something to the effect that increased technology would result in a society of idiots.

Exactly. This is why I never learned to read when I have audiobooks and a device in my pocket that will literally read anything I want to me. Reading is a useless skill in the 21st century.
That's sarcasm, you non-clock reading ignorant fricks.

My daughter is 7 and can read an analog clock. She even knows how to read in military time. I teach her not to always rely on newer technology.

I'd like to know what the purpose of an analog clock is in the 21st century
Keeps you up to speed on your basic math if nothing else. Is this really a difficult skill set?

I am from the UK and most people I know can tell the time. That link is bollocks.

I knew a old man who couldn’t read a digital clock.

Except for when you need to read an analog clock...or a watch

Well then teach the students.

Earlier this week I called to order something and I was asked what time would I be picking it up and I said "a quarter to five" and the girl said "im sorry what did you say?" and I repeated "quarter to five" and she paused and then said "is that 4:45?".. But a few months ago I had something similar happen.. Where I said "a quarter after ______" and then the person I was talking to seemed to be confused and I had to say the exact time
My god.

Feel sorry for all the derps in here when an EMP goes off and there's literally no electrical equipment of use within 50 Nmi.

Being retarded has a profoundly negative impact on life. Just look at you for example.

You should see current BCT trainees trying to figure out how to tie a tie for their first ASU inspection without their cellphones and YouTube to help them.
Tell them if they fail the inspection they won't graduate. shite is lost...

I agree. I never understand the mindset "we don't have to learn that anymore". Why would someone not want to learn something? And you really just never know when something as simple as reading an analog clock will be beneficial.
We have to make room for critical thinking about gender and other key topics for primary education
Kids should learn about slavery, the civil rights movement, memorize this month's list of pronouns and how not to appropriate cultures
Once that's done, they're ready for college
