Some students don’t know how to read analog clocks. Is it the end of an era?
Despite smartphones and other technological advances, one object has withstood the test of time: the analog clock.
Many of us remember learning about them in schools, between the "big hand, little hand" and converting those numbers to multiples of 5.
But is the analog clock's life in schools slowly ticking away?
According to London's Telegraph, some schools in the U.K. are ditching analog clocks for digital ones because students are struggling to read them.
"The current generation aren’t as good at reading the traditional clock face as older generations," said Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders.

In 2014, a teacher in Arizona discussed whether it was time to retire the analog clock in an age of smartphones and smartwatches where everything is digital, citing a colleague who wanted to teach his seventh grade class because they couldn't read the analog clock on the wall.

I know a few people in their 30s that can't read them either
It's because people don't wear watches as often as they used to

Just get rid of them.
Those of us who can read analog clocks and cursive writing will be viewed as wizards.

Rolex, Patek, and Tag are going to have to rethink their game.

I posted about stomping the one in my classroom to pieces in front of my students a few years ago because of this, and y'all busted my balls because I should've "taught them to read it". Story changes with different context.

I taught middle and high school in ebr from 2008-last October. I never had a digital clock, but I always had 2 regular clocks--one with numbers and one with Roman numerals. Every year, most of my students could not read the damn things. I would teach them at the beginning of the year and actually test them on the information as part of the rules and procedures test.
Most of them learned. A few refused. A few more simply could not grasp the concept (13-18 yr old students!)...

I'd like to know what the purpose of an analog clock is in the 21st century

It's a completely useless skill
If you were taught it and couldn't comprehend it that says something about your aptitude but it really isn't a valuable skill

Tons of analog instrumentation still in use today, being able to read a analog clock might help give s person a clue.

I assume that most could not.

Every radio station in America has a bigass analog clock in the control room.
