Every radio station in America has a bigass analog clock in the control room.

It is seems much easier to time something just watching the physical sweep of a second hand as opposed to watching a digital display count up seconds, something to do with how our brain is wired.

know a few people in their 30s that can't read them either

It's because people don't wear watches as often as they used to

No, it's because they're fricking stupid. I'm 32, my entire life growing up from elementary school into working life there was a clock on the wall. There is zero excuse for a 30 year old to not know how to read a clock whether they wear a watch or not.

To make it easy to pick out the stupid ones in the herd.

Bunch of lazy, rationalizing punks up in here, you have to have to have a thorough understanding of how things work, and how to compute them manually if all of your “I” shite isn’t working

This reminds me of something. Earlier this week I called to order something and I was asked what time would I be picking it up and I said "a quarter to five" and the girl said "im sorry what did you say?" and I repeated "quarter to five" and she paused and then said "is that 4:45?".. But a few months ago I had something similar happen.. Where I said "a quarter after ______" and then the person I was talking to seemed to be confused and I had to say the exact time.

Skill?

What retardation is this?

When did reading a clock become a skill?

It’s not necessarily a useless skill. What happens when your phone dies and you need to rely on a clock?

My girlfriend sucks at directions. She relies solely on her phone gps. She is done if she is in West Texas with no service and makes a wrong turn.

Not learning or being able to read an analog clock to me is not a sign of evolving technology, rather a sign of laziness or stupidity.

You are equating looking at a clock to learning how to write both capitalized and lower case letters in flowing script?

Reading an analog clock isn’t a skill.

If someone can’t read one, they are mentally challenged.

Will watching television be considered a skill next?

Maybe reading a calendar will be the next outdated skill.

I usually work with some pretty experienced people but not long ago, on a long flight I taped up everywhere on a screen where you could read our ground speed, I asked if anyone remembered how to compute it without pulling out any sort of aid, made me feel old to show them how to do it with only a clock

I know what it means, but it really irks me when people say this. What is so much different than saying 4:45? It has the exact number of syllables so you're not saving time. Makes me think they are just trying to be a pretentious douche.

I agree. I never understand the mindset "we don't have to learn that anymore". Why would someone not want to learn something? And you really just never know when something as simple as reading an analog clock will be beneficial.
