Thinking about taking a trip next summer while the wife and daughter are at church camp. The wife has already objected. Need to sort it out.

Went to Italy for a couple of weeks solo. And Mexico for about ten days. Thought I wouldn't enjoy it, but ended up having a blast

No. I go for a day to my ranch but usually have people meet me after that. My BIL will go there for a week before I get there sometimes and be fine.

Did Rocky Mountain National Park solo during covid. Stood on top of Hallett Peak on the continental divide completely alone. Hiked every trail I wanted, ate wherever I felt like. Only did some friendly talking with other hikers as we crossed paths but never had another person I had to constantly converse with. Best trip I ever went on.

Absolutely, though it's never a situation of "I'm going on a vacation, but by myself".
It's usually a short trip/extended weekend-- never a long trip and something I want to do/someplace I want to go but wife/ daughters not interested. And vice-versa. We always ask if the others want to go. Wife has gone solo to NY to see musical.plays ( hate 'em), or different places in the US to see soccer games (meh). I've taken long weekend trips to places I haven't seen or been to, usually catching some sporting event and seeing historical stuff. Sometimes fly, sometimes drive. This past summer while the wife was out of town on a weekend trip I went solo out on my boat and camped on Horn Island because no one else was available.
But our family travels together more than we do solo-- all 4 of us, just me and the wife, wife and one or both (out of the nest and unmarried) daughters, me and one or both daughters, and the two daughters will take trips together.
It works well for us.

Yes, I did a 2 week rte 66 road trip last May solo. I really enjoyed it. Did what I wanted, when I wanted, how long I wanted. Sometimes I feel I'm being selfish, but why drag someone else along who isn't really enjoying it? Had a lady at one of my stops tell me that there's only so many old gas stations and motels one could stand to look at. It reaffirmed my decision to travel alone

Only done a few short roadtrips solo, but it's really nice to stop where I want to stop, eat wherever looks interesting, etc, without having a discussion or group decision.
Interesting; I'm from a big family and have always valued alone time.

Went to Cedar Park Amusement park solo. Always wanted to go since a kid. Couldn’t convince anyone to go on a roller coaster vacation…I went alone. Had a blast…single rider line everytime.

I was scheduled to take a solo vacation in May, but a friend found out and she wants to go, too. I still intend to take a solo trip sometime next year.

Done many.
Hope to do many more. I take many pictures, show them to few, and stay travel ready should the occasion arise.
