but even that amount will hit hard for someone on a fixed income .
What about the amount someone with a young family is forced to pay into this abortion of a wealth redistribution program?

Just give me my damn money that was stolen from me; same for every other tax payer. You can take it from all the crooked assed politicians that were taking it from us.

It can't last, but we act like it will just continue forever. My generation might be the most fricked, pay into it for 30+ years and don't get shite.

In this hypothetical system, where would the money to pay your payments come from? If the young people opt out, your funding dries up.
I would start by forcing the government to pay back the trillions that it has taken from the SSA trust to fund other government programs out of the operating budget. Pay your citizens what you owe them first then fund the rest of the government.
quote:
it has borrowed approximately $2.7 trillion to $2.8 trillion in accumulated surpluses to fund other government operations.
I would be ok if they killed the program tomorrow and I never pay a $ to FICA again, but you have to pay the debts owed out of the operating budget. Hell, they can put check box on the 1040 asking you if you want to let Uncle Sam keep your FICA contributions for guys like you, fareplay, and Scruffy who are completely OK with Uncle Sam stealing from you.
In my opinion the federal gov't owes it's employees their paychecks first and then it owes its citizens their Social Security checks before any other portion of the government gets funded or foreign aid is distributed.
The government defaulting on its debts to its citizens should be unfathomable and unforgivable.

Gen X. Our entire life has been enshittification. We came right after the good ole days. And now Social Security is about to shite the bed just as we're entering retirement.
I have paid. A lot. SS taxes and otherwise.

Boomers gonna take social security with them to their graves too

I was in the Section 8 housing game. All those people on receiving a “guberment chek” and are on some form of ss disability.
The amount of fraud in social security is mind numbing.

You’re not wrong.. but you dont just throw out the baby with the bathwater.. many people benefit from SS, despite the ones who perpetuate fraud .
It’d be like saying b/c so many dumbasses drink & drive, and kill themselves or wipe out an innocent family of four on the road- we should outlaw the automobile.. that’s lazy thinking .

That's less than 2 years of SS payments. So in your hypothetical, we add more to the debt so you can get 2 years of SS payments back.
Now where will the other 90%+ of your SS payments come from?

Other than the 2 years noted above, "debt" has no relationship to SS and citizens. SS payments are from a redistributive welfare program. There is no debt owed.
You're framing this dishonestly, whether you realize it or not. It's a problem with this discussion that leads directly to the emotional-irrational NPC response "yeah we can end it when they pay me back what I paid (sometimes even insanely irrational, adding interest)". That is not going to happen. It's a sunk cost fallacy based around either your inability to understand or desire to believe fantasies and reject reality.

Nobody hates old people because they're old. Its hate for the "imma get mine" attitude and leaving a steaming heap of shite for their children and grandchildren to deal with.

What are they suppose to do, opt out of receiving SS? They paid into it and are now receiving it. The younger voters should insist that SS funds are not diverted to illegals and other fraud.

Scruffy,
With the assumption that you are not of retirement age, thank you so much for getting up each day and going to work. Now that may be a big assumption too that you do work vs living on the couch in your mom's house. We are enjoying the monies you are putting into social security.

Insist that a plan be put in place to eliminate it and ditch the "aint my problem" attitude. Im in my mid 30's and id be fine paying into it for 5 more years and it going away after that, so that my kids dont have to live with it. Ive paid quite a shitload of money into it myself.
Its wealth redistribution, and everybody is ok with it as long as its being redistributed to them.
