Why are y'all whining about wealthy Boomers?
Sounds like you're all on the verge of inheriting their 5 homes & Millions of Dollars without lifting a finger.

Bingo. Means testing is coming. It's already been floated by the DNC a few times.
Expect it to be heavily pushed once the dems are back in power. Their voter base will eat it up, and it has zero impact on dem politicians and donors. They don't need the money.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

I didn't say you were a successful ambulance chaser...

SS is nothing more than a tax.
Every 1¢ contributed in payroll tax goes straight to a US debt obligation. The borrowed money is then spent in the general fund, identical to the handling of bond money.
The SS debt obligation differentiates it from the handling of normal tax revenue. SS is currently in the black, and covers (reduces) ~$2T of the US debt.
Ongoing revenues only cover ~80% of SS outflow though. So annual drawdown on the SSTF will deplete it in the next 6-7yrs. DC politicians want the SSTF to remain as is, so they can continue spending the money on their pet projects.

Where does the sstf get funded from if the ss tax money goes to general fund?

So just to be clear, you’re cool with your SS payments ending when you recoup what you and your employer put in?
I would with equivalent interest i could have made investing that money instead of giving it to the govt to waste.
I have made other preparations for retirement as everyone should do. Its the responsible thing.

Which is what? How do you quantify that en masse?

A calculation would have to be made which is fair to the recipient and equal for all investors in SS.
If I had used that money and bought a few shares of apple or ms, I'd be a multimillionaire.
Now, what is fair. Maybe use a calculation they used similar to the 9/11 victims. I would still get less either way than if I had been allowed to invest it myself.

How does the money get spent in the general fund if it does not go into the general fund?

If you had bought WKHS or PLUG, you’d have almost nothing left, so I’ll ask again, how do you quantify that en masse?

Doesn’t hurt my feelings if that’s the case.

Whoo hoo! That will offset some of my expenses when I take that month-long European Viking river cruise next summer.
Thanks all you working stiffs!

I already answered your question.

I'm digging it. I'll get almost $100 more a month on my disability.
A lot of people trip out when I tell them how much I'm making on disability going how do you make so much?
Well I worked hard for a long time and made good money before I got sick and they go by your highest earning years out of 35 years.
Believe you me I'd much rather not be stuck in a damn wheelchair making disability. I'd rather be working living a normal life
