What you fail to understand is it all boils down to virtually everyone getting extremely fricked with every contribution they make to the program. Among contributors, there are no winners. The only winner is Uncle Sam. If you don't understand that, you are the patsy at the poker table.

Between the current $1.23T collected in FICA taxes and the $2T annual budget there is a fix without "extremely fricking someone with a long dick." Instead of getting pissed at generations of people we should focus our angst at the politicians that we elected to fix the problem.

I get that. I want it to die. Kill it right now. Yesterday would have been better. Never existing at all better yet. Whats the path to killing it?

How much of that 75 bucks/month will be negated by the increase in medicare premiums? Haven't seen that mentioned.

We will find out in November. The projected increase is 3.3%. My supplement insurance is increasing by 17.5% if I don't make any changes.

These young posters don't care about that. It's pretty simple for me, I have now put in for 38 years, probably have one more to go, and then I hope to recoup most of the money I and my employers have put in on my behalf.

So just to be clear, you’re cool with your SS payments ending when you recoup what you and your employer put in?

The government still has an obligation to pay that debt

SS isn't debt. It's a social welfare program.

The money taken from your check and my check isn't an investment. It doesn't create any sort of personalized obligation of the government to us. That money was taken to fund a social welfare program at the time of taking the money. Nothing more

The whole thread every time this comes up -

Old people - "I paid in for 30 years I want my money back. I dont care what happens long as I get minez"

Young people - "youre being paid with my money. Yours is gone. It needs to die now. We'll give up what weve put in to make it go away"

One argument is not like the other.

Correct

I would give up everything that I've paid to not have to pay anymore of the taxes moving forward for the rest of my life and ensure future generations aren't screwed by the system.

And I've been paying into social security for 25 years now? 27 years now? Something like that?

NC has a unique take on this, but the rest pretty much refuse to understand the above.

They actually believe they are owed something. They fell for propaganda and have a complete misunderstanding of the system.

Splitting hairs on semantics doesn't change the fact that it was taken from you with a promise to pay back through the form a monthly payment at age 62. This part indisputable and not debatable.

You can be a Cuck and and willing give up $100's of thousands of dollars. It doesn't mean that others are wrong for not following your lead and it sure as hell doesn't negate the promise, expectation, obligation, earned benefit or whatever you want call it that Uncle Sam pays the rest of us when it's time whether we "need" the money or not.

No. It was taken to fund a government program you assumed would be around when you turned 62/65.

I understand it's nothing more than a social welfare program using redistribution.

SS isn't debt.
The SSTF says otherwise, as does the history of the program dating back to its inception. It was initially used (as intended) to fund substantial portions of FDR's 2nd term New Deal programs, and then the WWII ramp up. That "non-debt" has been used identically as a pay-forward, US debt-obligation every year since.

SS is nothing more than a tax. If I could take the money stolen out of my checks in the name of SS and invest it myself I would already be comfortably retired. But the government thinks I’m too stupid to take care of myself.

As much as it annoys me to agree with Captain Ambulance Chaser, he's correct here.

If you're around 55 or younger and you think you'll ever see a penny of your Social Security contributions, you're woefully naive.

Plan accordingly.

An assumption that it would be paid back. There was no promise to pay anything back. What you paid was a tax on your wages, and what you get now is welfare.

Even better yet the most likely thing on the horizon is the government deciding that since you did manage take care of yourself anyway, you dont need any money from SS.
