I do not drink every night. I don’t have to drink to have fun. I guess what pissed me off is that we have all drank around them at family get togethers before (and I’m pretty sure they’ve drank too).
She just told me that I couldn’t bring beer because it would offend them... because it was a get together, at her parents, for her sister....
I thought it was stupid, I told her, and she broke up with me. I understand I probably just should’ve kept my mouth shut.

Nah, if she broke up with you because you told her that was stupid there were other underlying issues there. If not, she’s a bit crazy and not worth it anyway.

I'd honestly never encountered this phenomenon of teatotaler Christians until I left New Orleans for college. I still don't get it. It's not like the Bible has much to say about alcohol. In fact, I'm not aware of any holy book other than the Book of Mormon that does.
So what's the rationale? I guess you're just supposed to be so high on life after you've heard the Gospel that you just kind of walk around in a slack-jawed state of euphoria that's so powerful it renders alcohol irrelevant? I don't buy that. This is reality. Have a damned beer.

I went to a friends wedding once. They come from a strong baptist family so there was no alcohol involved. I respected there wishes, attended, and had a good time. It wasn’t MY party, it was there’s. Sounds like you need to grow up.

Should have just gotten drunk before you went to the party. She said you couldnt bring alcohol to the party, but didnt say anything about being drunk at the party. Sounds like she was testing your problem solving skills and you failed

Your gf was absolutely shite testing you. Who knows if it would have offended them but she wanted to see how you would respond and you failed her test.
This obviously wasnt an isolated incident and you've done other stuff up to this point which led her to testing you this way. Live and learn.

Something doesn't add up. In all of these family functions you have been to and the sister and her hubby have never expressed their feelings about drinking? If they are that hardcore against they would have already preached the evils of drinking to you at every one of these gatherings. If they are against it and you were a decent guy you wouldn't even be asking this question. You would go the day without drink out of respect for their feelings since the day is about the sister. But obviously you can't despite what you say because you made this a issue.
What is going on here is your GF wanted to break up and is using this as a excuse.

There are fewer things that annoy me more than feeble minded Baptists and non denoms who think drinking is a sin.
If you have a reason to not drink, like alcoholism, that's different. But to abstain based on nothing other than ancient cultural fundamentalism (1880s-1920s) is absurd.
