What I always found hilarious is that these people will go on and on about the sins of drinking. Then on sunday's they all race to their favorite local buffet and proceed to stuff their face and get fat. The sin isn't drinking the sin is gluttony and applies to anything not just drinking.

It’s not hypocritical if it happened at a get together that her and her husband were just attending but not hosting. They seem like pretty reasonable and understanding people if they don’t mind people drinking around them at events they are attending.
When it comes to a get together they are hosting, you suck up your immature, naive pride and respect their wishes to not have alcohol there.
Life isn’t always about you. Sometimes you have to do the grown up thing and think of others.

This is what everyone is not understanding... they aren’t hosting. The parents are hosting at their house... I think it’s dumb, but I guess I just need to grow up. I have definitely learned my lesson.

Had a similar situation. Sister married BIL who was raised medthodist or southern baptist or something. Anyway, his parents and extended family don't drink. He does however, but not around his family. They are good people, they just don't drink.
We had to go to this engagement party in bumfrick MS and my brothers and I were read the riot act about how there will be no alcohol and no profanity, etc. So we just packed an ice chest for the trip and drank on the way and would make drinks out by the car and kept it incognito. No one knew anything and it made the day tolerable. Just keep it quiet and don't make a fuss. Neither side is going to convert the other. No sense in making a public issue about it.

With that said, every family event I have been to with her, myself and her family have drank together(except for her sister and her sister’s husband.)
This weekend is her sister’s birthday and they are celebrating at her parents house. My girlfriend told me that I am not allowed to bring alcohol because it would be disrespectful to her and her preacher husband because it’s her birthday.
I'm assuming after 7 pages that someone has already posted the joke about how to keep a baptist from drinking all of your beer?

Your ex-girlfriend didn't leave you because of the drinking... its because she probably finally realized you're a dumbass with this statement.
It would be hypocrisy if they told everyone else that no one is allowed to drink at this party while they were drinking themselves.

You probably should've relented and just went along with it but I totally understand where you're coming from. I would've wanted to bring some beer out of spite, too. Or maybe next time you're hosting let everyone know beforehand that Grace before meals is a no-no in your residence.

Their parents are hosting to celebrate them. If the sister and husband wanted no alcohol, their parents accepted that, and so should you. Pretty simple, but people love drama.
