My gf’s sister is married to a preacher. I have no problem with that. Do whatever you’re passionate about.

With that said, every family event I have been to with her, myself and her family have drank together(except for her sister and her sister’s husband.)

This weekend is her sister’s birthday and they are celebrating at her parents house. My girlfriend told me that I am not allowed to bring alcohol because it would be disrespectful to her and her preacher husband because it’s her birthday. She said that it would be offensive to them.

On a scale from 1-10, how big of a crock of shite is this?

ETA: SHE JUST BROKE UP WITH ME LOL

ETA2:Of course I can go one night without alcohol haha
I do not drink every night. I don’t have to drink to have fun. I guess what pissed me off is that we have all drank around them at family get togethers before (and I’m pretty sure they’ve drank too). It just seemed hypocritical.

She told me that I couldn’t bring beer because it would offend them... because it was a get together, at her parents, for her sister....

I thought it was stupid, I told her, and she broke up with me. I understand I probably just should’ve kept my mouth shut.

Update: She just texted me apologizing for overreacting and for breaking up with me. I apologized for opening my mouth and being an a-hole.

Update: Party has been cancelled due to her sister being sick.

That pretty much depends on how you act after you've been drinking. If you're like me, it makes perfect sense that they wouldn't be very fond of it.

You don't need alcohol to have a good time.

Just bring your strawberry daiquiri in the styrofoam cup. You’ll be fine.

Read between the lines, you are a drunk and embarass the family.

It is their event, go without alcohol. Imagine it to be similar to being asked to wear sleeves to a funeral.

Just do what she asked to keep the peace. The family drama won't be worth the drinking, unless you're an alcoholic?

Bring a flask and mix it with whatever. You aren't openly disrespecting them and you still get to catch a buzz with the Baptists.

Are you an alcoholic?

Can you not enjoy others’ company without drinking?

I can see how you could get a little irked about this...but when you really look at it, alcohol is not really necessary and you can probably do without it for an hour.

An hour, yeah, but after a few I can't hold a damn phone!
