You feel shitty because you’re proud of the fact that you were self sufficient (as you should be) and now you feel like you’ve lost your agency. You got knocked on your arse and for the first time you find yourself incapable of fixing it on your own. Don’t continue down this line of thinking. Ps, I knew a piece of shite in college whose family was middle class but he was able to claim food stamps. THAT person was and still likely is a piece of shite.
