Government assistance is there for this sort of reason.
Even the most anti government type would agree that government assistance to those who really need it is fine.
Just the do nothing moochers and abusers are who give government payments a terrible name.
But, good luck with the future. I've known several that have had to change careers, too, because of health issues.
They were able to make it work out.
I'm sure you can, too. Frankly, you seem to have a better outlook than the ones I know.
So, you're already ahead of the game.

I told him I always wanted to sit and pee and now I have an excuse. He didn’t find that funny.
That’s funny right there.
Get well and explore your options. Something will come up.

Nothing to feel bad about. You’ve paid into it all this time; now you’re in a situation where you truly need to get a little help yourself for awhile. This is the system at its best ... not you at your worst.
In fact, I’m going to go a step further and say that you should heed your doctor’s advice, no matter how pressured you feel to get back to work ASAP. If it’s a question of staying on assistance a little longer than you’d prefer vs. rushing back to work and maybe causing yourself a huge setback, always choose what offers the least long-term risk/most long-term benefit. It’s hard, but necessary when you have a family depending on you.
Best of luck for a quick and complete recovery.

I'm a pretty good financial advisor if you need some help.

God bless man. I’d offer you a job up here but we’re a blue collar company doing labor. Take care of yourself and stay upbeat.

The only sad part about the OP is that he is a UTEP fan. Get your money man. You pay taxes and you need some of that money you been paying all these years. Don't be ashamed. It's there for people like you but please, I beg you. Don't drive up to a crab shack in your Mercedes and get $200 worth of seafood..... It just looks bad, but what do I know. I see it a lot in New Orleans.

Like everyone else said, it’s there if you need it. I’m glad to think it’s helping someone who needs it as opposed to someone just milking the system.
Good luck with your recovery. Hope to see you on HGTv with your own show one day.

Hey man, you and your kiddos will be in my prayers tonight. I hope you took my advice and paid a visit to your local food bank...they are damn good folks and feed a lot more of the community than you think every day. In fact, I sent my annual donation to my local food bank just this morning.
Best of luck on your surgery...time for you to get back on your feet.
If you have any trouble buying a Christmas present or two for your kids, be sure to let us know.

About 5 years ago I was suffered a major injury and was in a nursing home for a year learning to walk again. I lost everything from my home to career. Luckily for me I was able to get a settlement.
The best advice I can give to the OP is to stay positive. More than likely you will qualify for SSI(disability). From there sign up for the Ticket to Work program that is offered by Social Security.

How about a safety, planner or purchaser job?? Either way try to think outside the box. Best of luck and prayers sent for you and your family.
