Just by the fact that you feel some guilt, deserved or not, proves IMO that you are far from a piece of shite.
I think I speak for most of us here when I say, the problem we have with food stamps/welfare, is those that simply accept that as a lifestyle.
The system is THERE TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. You seem to qualify as in need.
Good luck to you sir, keep positive thoughts and keep fighting.

Not at all. This is purpose of such a program my man. You are clearly very much unlike those that use it to subsidize a lifestyle. The fact that you feel embarrassed speaks volumes (you should not - could happen to any of us.)
Hang in there, sending prayers your way my friend. It will get better.

I don't think anyone has an issue helping people temporarily or that are permanently disabled. It's the career welfare recipients people take issue with.

Sorry for life hitting you so hard. I for one don’t mind helping you out. Are you in or around BR? Definitely don’t mind getting you a box of necessities.

Is the intent of this thread to make some sort of political point, an appeal for sympathy, request for help ... or something else.
I don't get the need or desire to share this sort of information in this context in this forum.

Sometimes you've just got to get shite off your chest and doing so within a group of anonymous peers is a damn good way to go about it.

Perhaps for some. I can understand that.
But it was worded with what appeared to be a political twist, it seemed to be more than just venting.

Maybe he needs to vent. Give the guy a break, he deserves it.
To the OP, I hope you get through this, especially health-wise. This must be scary. If we can help, we will.

How much do you get per month for you and 3 kids?

Nothing political at all. You can probably look at my post history and that’ll be pretty obvious. I just felt odd accepting the help and needed to get it off of my chest. I’ve been on TD long enough to know that I’d probably get my fair share of the normal you suck/don’t do drug posts. I also knew I’d get he majority of the people on here giving an honest opinion. That’s why I posted. After reading the replies, I realize that I’m doing what I need to in order to help my kids. For that I’m appreciative.
Also, I saw where someone mentioned helping out or go fund me. Although I appreciate the idea/offer, that’s not what I’m here for. I have family that will help if it comes down to it. I just wanted to wait on asking them for help on things such as my mortgage and utilities(if needed). Right now I feel greatful and fortunate if food stamps is as far as I have to go for help.

Have you even considered the time of year? Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, the trifecta of these next several months, family oriented. He's a single father of 3. This probably isn't easy and he needed to vent.

And I wouldn't mind helping him either. Any idea how old his kids are?

No, he is being resilient. He doesn’t know how much strength he has behind him.

Another option is local churches. Most have discretionary funds and to meet electric bills, etc. they can help.
Please stay in touch.

My mom was Pres. of St. Vincent de Paul in the Baton Rouge hood in my childhood. The church takes care of people.

I have a good job and I’ve always worked. The problem is that I had 4 mini strokes the first week in September and haven’t been able to work since. I tried but the dr won’t release me. I had surgery at the start of this month to correct the problem and they couldn’t do it. I go next week to Birmingham so another dr can give it a shot. Best case scenario, the second surgery works and ’m out another 4-6 weeks. I didn’t want to apply for help, but I’m a single father of 3 and the money I have saved up will only last so long. I haven’t told my kids bc I’m embarrassed. Also, I don’t want them to worry. It’s been tough enough on them as it is. So, do I suck?
This is what food stamps is for. Yes, it's a kick in the balls... as it should be. It's low. It's parasitic. But, if you jump back up to get back on your feet without staying on it for a while, I have no problem with it.
What pissed me off is tickets getting groceries with EBT then busting out a wad of cash to buy cigs and booze.

It was this time last year that the OT adopted the puppies TDCline’s family rescued from a ditch.
We can be mean, but deep down this is a good group of folks. Is there any information yet on how we can help OP’s family out for Christmas?
