quote:No need for you to feel bad about it. You are an example of why the SNAP program is there.
I just felt odd accepting the help and needed to get it off of my chest.
It provides temporary help to someone who, through no fault of their own, need a bit of assistance.
You're not a "leech" most people think of when we picture someone with a permanent dependency on public assistance because they are too lazy or too stupid to be able to support themselves.
Just take care of your health, get back on your feet physically, and don't worry about what others may think and you'll do just fine.

It is there to get people back on their feet.
You will get through this.
Yes, it take awhile.
At this point your job is to take care of yourself, so you can take care of your kids.

You’re using it for what it’s intended for. You become a POS, when you abuse it and teach your offspring to do the same.

Man, I just had a tumor removed from my brain and you just gotta do what you gotta do. I haven’t had to resort to help but if it comes between my pride and kids eating, there is no choice. Besides that that’s your money you’ve paid into already for such situations. No guilt, just get better.

The fact that you feel guilty tells me you are a stand up dude. Tragedy strikes, you take the available help for the time you need it...

Prayers for you and your kids. Hang in there and it will get better.

People being out because of situations like this is exactly what safety nets were made for.
Heal fast, get back at it.

If you get off them after you are set right? No.
If you live off them when you could work? Yes.

get the help you need. It's what it's there for. see if you can get WIC as well.

You don't suck at all. That's why we have the system in place. Do what you need to take care of yourself and your children.
I have a huge problem with people who abuse the system, but that is not at all what you are doing. Get well soon.

OT ballers, to avoid this situation, buy long term and short term disability insurance, as well as an Aflac supplemental policy for major health events. Pays you lump sum when you have a stroke and disability helps replace your income.

Take the help brother and feed your kids. Glad it’s going to a good place.

So, do I suck?
Nope. Not that you should be concerned about what people here may think, it's a hand up rather than a hand out in your case. This assistance is made for people in your shoes. I hope you get better and fully recover soon. God Bless.

Hell no man. That's what it's for. Hope you get the medical treatment you need and get back on your feet. No shame in what you're doing.

Dude that is what the safety net is there for. Don’t mAke a career out of it if you know what I mean.

Man, this sounds like some terribly difficult shite. As the others say, this is exactly the kind of situation that these programs were put into place for. You should try to get every form of aid into place that you can. You need to remove some of this financial stress so that you can focus on getting better for your kids and yourself.
FWIW, I would also check out your local food bank...I know a number of retirees who get food boxes every month simply based on their income. The food is donated to them for just such distribution.

A hand up is not a hand out. Keep moving making forward progress, even when it doesn't feel that way

Dude you’ve had some terrible luck. Focus on getting better, not feeling guilty about receiving a benefit that you’ve been putting in to.
