I haven’t seen a cottonmouth in years since the hogs moved in. They have wiped out the snake population.

I'd like to know what part of Atlanta that is.
It's definitely not the city.
There's a lot of wildlife in Atlanta, including in the city itself. That could have been on or near Nancy or Peachtree creek. Parts of the video looked like some areas along the Yellow River in Dekalb county near Stone Mountain.
I thought Atlanta was a bit too far north for cottonmouths, but I guess not. We see deer, foxes, coyotes quite often, along with hawks and owls and we're not far outside of 285.

I get anxiety, watching those videos, I don’t even go onto the snake exhibit at the zoo

I just wonder why he doesn't carry a sharpened hoe.

We used to do that with a 22 and 12 gauge, we'd blast every MF we saw.

Cottonmouths aren't all that scary. You can get pretty close to them and they will remain pretty chill. Even when they get defensive, they make a lot of scary movements but they don't move all that efficiently on land.
As far as snakes in ATL, there are plenty of them. I go hiking at Chochran Shoals when I am in ATL for work, which is only a couple of miles from Truist. I always see multiple snakes, mostly water snakes, garter, racers, and ringnecks. I've never seen a venomous snake out there, but I've been told that copperheads are prevalent.
My sister and her fam live in Marietta close to Roswell, and they have found several copperheads on their property, and even have a bear that grazes through their neighborhood sometimes.

The scarlet kingsnake was a cool find.

True - they get such a bad rap for being “aggressive” and it just isn’t true.
Around 2/3 of them just try to flee once they know you’re there. Around 1/3 will stand their ground and maybe put on a gaping display, and only around 1/3 of those will even strike - even when provoked.

The video says metro atlanta. He doesn't name the exact location. He could be an hour outside downtown and still be considered metro atlanta. None of the footage looks like it's anywhere near the city. Also of note, metro atlanta didn't have any cottomouths 30 years ago.

My nephew worked as a surveyor's assistant last summer and his boss told him the same thing.

Peachtree Creek did cross my mind.

This I can believe.

That's what I thought of as well.
You will often see granite in the creeks/banks, which makes me second guess the Dekalb County/Stone Mountain location.

Tell antifa, cops are putting a shooting range there.

Wow. Thank goodness I never say any. Or copperheads, for that fact. I’ve gone four wheeling and hiking in Washington Parish and nothing. Nor in the pond on the property. Maybe they saw me and slithered away.
When I was as a kid, we had a creek running down behind our yard. Woodsy yard, too. We’d play out there in the wooded area and in the creek, never a snake seen. I guess we were lucky! My grand dog got tagged by a copperhead in her own back yard in Covington last year. She survived. I guess it’s the luck of the draw seeing a snake.

There are hogs on my land and I thought there weren't many snakes. When we built the pond this summer there were at least a dozen cottonmouths on an acre of wet valley bottom. I had walked that section many times and never seen one. The pond-site is temporarily snake free thanks to an excavator and a 45. I imagine they will be back.

I stepped on a cottonmouth once. My now 36 year old daughter was an infant. I handed her to my wife so I could walk the last 15 yards or so across a sluice right by Bayou Paquet west of Slidell. It felt like a small explosion under my right foot, and that thing hauled arse. I got a great look at it, though. Big triangular head and a fat body.
A good example that they don’t want to bite you.

With the dry weather, Id bet most Louisiana and Mississippi creeks have way more.
