Saw the Grand Canyon on TV a lot, but until I went there I did not comprehend it's size

very true. i took my kids when they were youngish on a whirlwind tour of the west and they were asleep when we got to the grand canyon; i'll never forget the look on their faces when they woke up and looked out the window of the car...

I genuinely did not grasp the height of skyscrapers until I went to Chicago and visited the Sears tower (it's not Willis damnit).

A lot of natural wonders out west. Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches, Glacier, Yosemite, etc.

The aftermath of a cat 4-5 hurricane, or an f4-5 tornado.

Mt. McKinley/Denali felt that way for me. It’s hard to see scale in photos. It makes the other surrounding mountains look like tiny hills.
