Grand Canyon

My wife and I flew there the only time I’ve seen it. We hiked the rim in the evening, and departed early the next morning. We flew the low altitude VFR corridors about 500-1,000 feet above the helicopter tours then out Marble Canyon to Lake Powell. Seeing all of that just after sunrise was an experience I won’t forget.

Yosemite Canyon was one of the most beautiful natural sites I’ve ever seen. We stayed at the Yosemite Lodge and that was memorable, too.

Talladega on a packed April race weekend

THIS. Dega is a must for any race fan. That place was so much fun back in the late 90's. 43 cars coming at you so damn fast you can't see the number on the side of car. Man that was fun.

And, I'll add doing the ride along experience at Dega. 185mph down the straights with a 6 story wall of asphalt staring you in the face. I was thinking "there's no fricking way this car is about to turn left at this speed." Compounding it was the driver is driving along with one hand on the wheel talking to you like you're at the Dairy Queen drive through.

Please say sights. Sites seems like you’re talking about websites.

I was going to make the same comment, but either works there.

It is not as impressive if you dont know the story behind it. Largest landslide in recorded history. Krakatoa was bigger but happened in 1880s in the Pacific.

I remember being more that 20 miles out from Mt St Helens and passed a little non descript sign that said "now entering the blast zone"

Tiger Stadium
It sounded just as loud when it was just the lower bow with just under 68K people. I was impressed with it back then when I was 10 years old.

When it went to 78K with the one original upper deck on the West side, it was bigger, it didn't look as good.

When they built the 2nd upper deck, that took it to 91.6K seats it looked even worse because it didn't match. One side started wrapping around the endzone and the other one didn't, but it was done intentionally because we had a real plan to eventually go to 102K seats.

They tore down the original West Upper and built a new one that matched the East upper and it looked pretty good.

Adding the South Upper Deck really made it look as good as it did when it was just the lower bowl.

If the build a North Upper, I hope they make the outside look more like the lower bowl than the South Lower looks. Don't care how much that would cost.

I haven’t done that, but I’ve gone on the infield and walked up the track on the straightaway to experience the banking.

Also, the sights and sounds are surreal. Listening to Sweet Home Alabama over the loudspeakers and viewing the big rig with the American Flag are something else.

In 2001 when my dad turned 70 we spent a week in DC. It was a working vacation for my mom. She had meetings with a senator and some representatives. We went with her to Dr. John Cooksey, our representative's office. We went from his office to the office he uses at the Capital on the underground train. That whole setup was really cool. I never knew it was there until that day. My dad and I waited for my mom at that Capitol office while Rep Cooksey took her and a principal from another NELA school district to testify at a hearing. I was amazed by how many people were in the their offices and the offices in the capitol, working on what I imagined as a regular weekday. There were also senate hearing going on up and down the hallways. You could here what they were saying when people would go in, and out, of the hearing rooms. It was all pretty impressive. I've often wondered if they still let people "regular people" like my dad and I roam around down there after 9/11. Our trip was a couple of months before then.

The whole DC area Metro subway system was impressive we rode it over to Maryland and to Virginia on different days.

My dad and I spent every other day of the trip going thru the Smithsonian. There was way more to it than I expected too.

We’ve been on the road for almost a month now visiting National parks and Yosemite has been the most beautiful so far. Doing the Grand Canyon today before making our way back to Louisiana. So far we’ve seen:

Great Sand Dunes NP
Rocky Mountain NP
Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP
Arches NP
Bryce Canyon NP
Zion NP
Sequoia NP
Kings Canyon NP
Yosemite NP

he first time I walked out of a subway tunnel in the middle of Manhattan. I thought I knew what to expect, but I couldn't help but stare upwards and feel a bit overwhelmed.

This right here, I got dizzy just walking around looking straight up at the height of everything. It's also fascinating is that there were areas of the city that are three stories below ground. Went into a TJ Max and Marshalls was a story below then home goods was below it, then the storage for all was another level down...

Rocky Mountain National Park is breath taking in person. No picture can capture the feeling of being there IMO.

No joke. I have some pictures that I would think we're photoshopped if I hadn't taken them myself.
