Should we rebuild in LP and AP?

We basically let NO East go. Louisiana is sinking.
Maybe we should raise the minimum flood elevation 6' and let most of LP and AP go. Otherwise, through FEMA, we will be paying for years to keep fixing all this stuff.

That's the 7 billion dollar question.

This is a rain event that could happen almost anywhere. It's not an elevation problem.
Let's be honest, N.O. East was on its way out before Katrina.

This is a fair thread.
Chad's last night was frickin retarded.
The coast is a falling into the Gulf.

It's a legitimate question.

I bet the area has flooded like this before europeans settled.
hell we have only been here approx. 300 years
it could flood worse in the future.

Come back north. Repopulate NBR, WBR, etc.

nah, the retardation is the inability of some to just focus on a simple question about volume of homes flooded. the interpretation of a pissing match is nothing short of one's own self reflection of oneself.

The elevation of Louisiana IS dropping. Sea levels ARE rising. It is an elevation problem.

If we let every place go that was below a certain elevation for fear of flooding, you probably wouldn't see anything south of I-10 settled. The coastal parishes are low-lying areas, can't change that. Should they have been settled? Maybe not, but that's what makes the people of this part of the state so resilient. It knocks you down, you get back up. Maybe if this was not all most of these people ever knew, you might be able to convince them to leave it behind. But for most, these are their homes. They aren't going to leave.
