re: Should the ability to change out a tire be a basic requirement for all men?

You should absolutely question his manhood. My dad taught me how to change a tire at 13, the same time he started teaching me to drive.
I consider it a must. Hell, most women I know can change a tire, although most will still prefer to call bf/dad/brother.

In general, yes. Should be a requirement. For fracks sakes, the vehicle owner’s books even show you how if there’s doubt.
But I will say this, to hell with changing one that exposed to the traffic side of a freeway in Houston or similar unless there’s a cop behind my vehicle with flashing lights. Like someone above stated, way to many distracted drivers.
I remember years ago driving between the basin bridge and BR, heading East, and heard our tire pop. On drivers’ side. On the way to vacation, so had the wife and kids. I had pulled over to the right shoulder, so flat tire facing traffic side. I pulled our luggage out the trunk and placed out a ways hoping other drivers would see and slow the frick down (many still didn’t because assholes). Made my wife and kids get out the vehicle and stand farther off to the side. Changed the tire, but my hands were shaking the whole damn time.
And I don’t understand it other than that there’s lots of selfish dicks in this world. The second I realize someone is on the side of the road and out of their vehicle, if possible, I move over. If not possible, I slow down to 30mph or so, no matter the speed limit. Some people did that while I was down at the vehicle, but many others couldn’t give two shits.
TL;DR, but yes, it should be a requirement to call yourself a man. However, there’s times where it’s better to call for assistance.

Ok then, i would take it a step further... yeah i know how to change a tire, and i also know how to drive a stick shift... What kind of man doesn’t know how to drive a manual transmission?
InB4 “it’s 2019, no need to drive a stick”.. well, there is also no reason to change a tire in 2019- i literally have 3 ways to get a flat tire changed if it happens to me: my vehicle’s warranty roadside assistance, my insurance company’s roadside assistance , and AAA... So what kind of man cant drive a stick shift?

Of course but depending on the situation it’s better to get someone to come do it. I’ve known people that got killed changing a tire cause someone wasn’t paying attention and hit the car
Now if it’s in a parking lot she should just dump him and move on

You must’ve missed the multiple threads recently where puddin’ pops like Pelican Fan 99 above claim that driving a stick is antiquated and unnecessary.
ETA, here is one: LINK

I agree with what you are saying here. However, I changed a tire on the interstate once and it was nerve racking. I kept waiting for some lady putting on her makeup or a teen texting on their phone to drift over into the emergency lane. While I wouldn't advocate calling AAA instantly, I understand the sentiment.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t changed a tire in like eight
years and I’d probably have to look at the manual to know where the jack goes

Problem is accessing the spare is a big pain now. Probably take 30 minutes just to lower spare on my car.

Any man should be able to change a tire AND drive stick...
Yeah, I can have a poor person come build my shed for me too but I'm not a bitch.

Nothing wrong with that. Different vehicles have different frames, and with what auto frame mechanics are able to charge these days due to market, I wouldn’t want to risk damaging something underneath by having all that pressure in the wrong spot.
But a man should be able to take a look at the manual, see where to best place the jack, and go to work.

90% of you roadside tire changers would say frick it on a Dodge Caravan. The spare is under the car below the center console. If you have a flat on the front the car is to low to the ground to get the spare out from under the car and you also have to deal with hot exhaust pipe. Your supposed to drag the spare out from under the car using this stick thing with a hook on it

No. Every self-respecting man should know how to change a tire. It's not difficult at all
Agree. Even if you don’t know, the vehicle’s owners manual often explains it, even with pics

Holy crap.
And I thought the hybrid Accord with no spare tire was bad.
Might as well not have one, if you have to dismantle the car to get to it.
