Am I an a-hole for implying that this dude's manliness should be questioned for not being able to change a tire?

Yes. You don't know how the dude grew up. One of my roommates at LSU was raised by a single mom and I had to teach him how to change oil, tires, etc. I've met guys who never had to cut grass before because they grew up in a living in an apartment or something. Does it make them less of a man? Nope. If he doesn't want to change the tires because he might chip a nail then yeah, i'd raise an eyebrow to that.

the vehicle’s owners manual often explains it, even with pics

Does it explain how to use a POS lug wrench to loosen a lug nut torqued @ 100+ ft lbs. The last time I changed a tire the lugs were so tight one stud snapped off.

Recently watched one of you active type bros sit on the side of the road for 3 hours waiting for a wrecker service to come swap the flat on your lifted Jeep

Around age 35 while changing a tire with traffic passing by 3 feet from me I realized my life was worth more than the cost or time it took to get a tow truck guy to come change the tire.

That song was the first thing I thought of when I had that conversation with her.

It's definitely a case by case basis. Last one I got was on 440 between Hillsboro and I-65 here in Nashville. If you know that portion of interstate, you know it's not the best place to be on the side of the road changing your tire - especially a driver side tire. I got it changed, but not without pissing my pants multiple times. I'm not even afraid to admit it. That shite was scary and I was sweating bullets. Next time I'll call the DOT trucks to come help me out.

Now in your driveway - no problem. Everyone should be able to do that.

Just men? I feel every human who drives should be able to do this.

I get the change oil thing, but changing a tire and cutting the grass? If you’ve never been specifically taught you should still be able to figure it out.

I’m always surprised at the amount of shite some men don’t know how to do. It’s actually pretty scary and will only get worse

About a year and a half ago I had to terminate an employee. I went outside about 30 minutes after we let him go and there he was with a flat tire that he wasn’t strong enough to get the nuts off. So after firing him I had to help him change his tire to get him off the property.

before my mom could get her drivers license my grandpa required her to rotate the tires on my grandma's 1967 station wagon.

Flats were a lot more common back then.

But yes, any man should be able to change a tire in less than 10 minutes.

Most of our cars don't even have a spare...

I hadn't had a flat in about 15 years until about this time last year and I was smart enough to have a 2ft cheater bar in the trunk to break the gun driven lugs BUT the key for the wheel lock literally shattered trying to break it loose. So I had to get it towed and had them remove all the locks and replace them with standard ug nuts. Depending on the size of the nut lug torque should be between 70 and 145 foot-pounds but some of those numbnuts that rely just on the gun have them at 200 foot-pounds or more.

Every man should know how to change a tire....and every man should teach their kids how to change a tire.

Also taught my 2 boys how to remove a nail from a tire and then install a plug.

I also recommend keeping a tire plug kit and air compressor in the vehicle.

Tire plug kit varies but can be had for $25 and an air compressor that plugs into vehicle outlet are very reasonably priced.

Just got AAA for the family this year for the peace of mind that I don’t have to drop everything when they have a flat.

I’m perfectly fine handling my own.

I knew a guy who got hit in the head by the side mirror of a passing truck while fooling with his car on the side of the interstate. He survived but has severe brain damage. I'll tell him that it's all good because OP thinks he's a man though.

I had a pretty hot MILf client (no pics unfortunately) once tell me that she would not drive a car that her husband had changed a tire on. He was a tennis pro and did not know a hammer from a screwdriver and was probably screwing 50 other women at the time.
