The school is the math, science, and arts academy east in St Gabriel by our house. I don’t know if anybody had their kids go there and if they like it.
The tuition at the private school is $5000 for K-5th and $6000 for 6th-12th.

I would research the magnet school.
The standardized tests suck, but that shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

My kids went the WHAM, Sherwood magnet, BRMHS route . It will save you a lot of money ( 20k a year for me ) and they’ll get a great education and be in a competitive environment . You just have to be ok with the occasional mindless annoying NPC virtue- signaling crap. And you are now dealing with really smart kids, but not necessarily parents that you can relate to. Overall, our experience has been Excellent. I’ve been very , very pleased.

The non-refundable deadline fo re-up at most private schools is before magnet testing for that next year takes place. I’m in the same boat. We’re going to test our oldest for magnet this year just to see where he’s at, but we’ve already signed for him to return to private school next year so he’s doing that regardless of how testing goes.

Judging by your name, I would send him to the magnet. Have two relatives that go there, and they like it a lot. both are straight A students.

Private schools tend to a bunch better job with holistic formation than the magnets which are academically focused. Depends on what you want.
