Do you like the school? If so, don't make the switch. He's happy, you like the school. Money shouldn't be the deciding factor unless you've had a drastic income hit and just cannot afford the private school.

Even with that, private schools will typically work with you quietly to work out tuition issues.

What wrong with going to a forum where there are likely many people that have faced the same decisions, there are also a lot of teachers on the OT.

Is it a private or a parochial school? Parochial schools particularly in Louisiana usually aren’t worth the collection plate pennies they charge.
I don’t know why but it so irks me when La people through the word “private school” around as if their talking about Lawrenceville Prep, Moses Brown school, Springside Chestnut Hill, Phillips ExeterAcademy, Petty Prep, and so on. It’s sort of like telling your friends so much about your college football career when your referring to the back up role you had on flag football intramurals. When someone says private school, I’m thinking a minimum of $25k for kindergarten. St. Baws Christian Baptist isn’t even held up to public school standards, never mind the scrutiny of private schools.

in your situation, i woulld choose the public magnet school
the private schools in your area are not that strong

as far as state testing your wife should be able to help the child test taking skills. the test is more about how to take the test than rote knowledge

focus on reading writing and math especially word problems

i once served on the committee that approves all of the questions for the ileap and leap tests

strong reading is critical
