This has become unacceptable….airlines need to start making them pay for 2 seats!
They charge extra for 5lbs overweight on your baggage!
America has become fat and disgusting’

Now here’s a fresh new topic for the OT!

Weight is fuel. I propose that there is a flat fee per seat, then charge per pound. No minimum, no maximum. Include the person and all carry ons/luggage. Big boy who wants to keep their ticket low? Pack light, brother.

Everyone is afraid to take them on. Airlines won't do it and everyone whispers around the morbidly obese person because they don't "want to make them feel embarrassed" or afraid of conflict.
As someone who flies 45-50 times a year, know two things:
1) if an overweight passenger cannot push down their arms rests and fit safely in their chair, they're in violation of the airline carriage of contract. Let a flight attendant know immediately that they are violation of policy.
2) more importantly, notify the flight attendant before the plane door is sealed. Once that happens, it's too late to action the problem.

Just ban fatties from public spaces

I always wonder if the pilots giggle at the planes trim being fricked up because some fatass bovine is sitting in the back.

I had a big girl like that come and sit next to me on a flight. As soon as she sat down she raised the armrest so she could ooze into my seat. I was having none of it and pushed the armrest down. She immediately raised it.
I grabbed a flight attendant who was in the aisle and pointed to what was going on. The girl said she can't have the armrest down because it "pinches her side" and the flight attendant ended up moving her to the back of the plane to two seats that were unoccupied.
The poster who said to tell them right away is 100% correct. If I had waited and those seats got occupied by someone else, I am not sure how it would have gone.

Just make them buy a second seat. Seems fairly simple.
The larger issue is I've known some bigger people that have bought two seats and the airline looks at it as free money and wants to make them sit next to someone. The seat is paid for, who gives a frick if its open.

And what's the deal with airline food?

Never heard this one before. Most original topic I've ever seen on this board

How does that work on a full flight?

I seated on a Southwest flight now….cannot fit in my seat without hanging out in the aisle…
Traveling used to be reasonable and efficient…now it is high priced and disgusting! Service sucks! And that’s all airlines!

They have a box to measure your carry on luggage. Why not the same with people? Have a seat with the arm rests fixed in the down position!

I have to imagine at some point, if the person just can't fit in one seat, that they kick them off the plane.
Especially if it gets to the situation where they can't seatbelt into a single seat.

I did one of those helicopter tours in Hawaii. Because helicopters are ultrasensitive to weight balance they made EVERYONE step on a digital scale first to determine (a) whether they were too fat to fly and (b) where they would assign them to sit based on weight distribution.
It was comical waiting at the helipad and watching all of the women react to being told they had to step on a scale. They all pitched a fit. These weren't even fat women - just normal bodied, could stand to lose a few pounds middle aged women. Being told they had to step on a scale was horrifying to them. And only the gate agent could see what the scale read, none of the other passengers could see their precious weight total. At least one of them refused and canceled her trip.
Based on what I saw, I can't image how quickly the airline industry would collapse if they implemented a "weigh in".

worst flight i ever had was DFW to LAX sandwiched in the middle of two larger people. flight from BTR was delayed long enough that i had to switch connecting flights. only middle seats available.
spent the whole flight leaning forward because there was no room for my shoulders to fit sitting back
