Really the broader problem with America right now is that people are generally so low IQ that they have no social awareness. This is just another example of it.

I'm really tall, so on flights I always try to get a seat with more legroom so I'm not having to crowd someone else's feet out. Most people just don't give a shite anymore.

The airport brings out a ton of behaviors like this. Not having your ID ready before you step up to security. Throwing on the brakes in the middle of a crowded walkway so people have to themselves stop or go around you. Standing in the middle of walkways. Not throwing away your trash. Taking up seats with your carryon/laptop bag in the terminal when there are people standing. When the plane arrives trying to rush to stand up so you can be one of the first ones off, but waiting to get your luggage down until its your turn to move.

charge per pound.

I have a friend who is 6’4”-6’5” and build like a tank. Runs and bikes and not much fat on him. He’s just a big ol’ country hoss. Can he fly or does he have to pay extra too? Or will we start doing BMI? What if you can crank out 50 pushups, are you exempt from the fat tax?

Seats are just too small now-a-days anyway. Even for normal sized people.

seat belt extender

And then there are the people that bring their own personal extenders that they bought somewhere online and are hell-bent with the idea that they are approved because it said so on the website.

The only real solution is charge them for 2 seats,…and problem solved….but how do you do this prior to the flight?

Advertise that all passengers will need to demonstrate that they can sit in something similar to this before boarding.

And warn them that if they do not properly fit they will need to pay for the extra seat if one is available. If an extra seat is not available, they will need to be transferred to another flight when one is available with 2 seats and they need to pay full price for both tickets. No refunds provided as they were given clear instructions before purchasing their tickets.

Of course, this will be one of those "sounds good, doesn't work" things.

yes and yes

seats have gotten smaller as economic conditions have tightened (ie: the lower fares that everyone wants and the higher fuel prices) but I fit fine and honestly most people still do. If you are gigantic thru no fault of your own you have advantages elsewhere but not on an airline flight

My seat-neighbor this past Friday was a very nice lady who was probably pushing 350. We were in first class and she was still spilling over into my side.

Again, a very nice lady but my mind was blown that she managed to make first class uncomfortable.

I was boarding a flight and there was a woman in line who had a full double wide arse in the line. Thankfully, I didn't have to sit next to her.

Yeah, an person who needs two seats should pay for two seats.
