Set your AC to 78 degrees during the day, 82 at night, federal program suggests

And when you're sleeping or away, the suggested temperatures go up. When sleeping, it's recommended that the thermostat is kept at 82 degrees, and when away, people should set the thermostat to 85 degrees, Energy Star said.

If highs the following day are in the 70s or upper 60s, sure. No problem.
A thermostat set to 82° will never find itself under a roof Louisianans reside.
