Murder rate?
Something I didn't worry about when I was there.
And I was paying a lot of attention to my surroundings. I didn't see anything that even raised my awareness a little.
Of course, I stayed out of the ghetto and visited areas normal people do every day.
Fun city, loved my time there.

Chicago is my favorite city in the country. Been to Boston, NYC, LA, Dallas, NOLA, Phoenix, etc., none compared to Chicago. NYC is close but I couldn't get over the whole city smelling like a giant trash can being they leave their trash out on the roads instead of having alleys like Chicago has.
Chicago in the summertime, especially, is incredible. If you find yourself bored in that city, you haven't tried to find something to do.
Also, for the record, deep dish is not what the locals eat. Chicago is a thin crust, tavern-style pizza town.

If you like museums, architecture and food it’s a pretty great city. Cool neighborhoods, generally friendly people. I love Chicago

Oh, S! It’s jaw dropping beautiful that time of year. I loved that time we flew from Chicago to Kennebunkport to visit you!

The architecture tour was magnificent and inspired the new alabaster chandeliers at our villa in Boca Raton.

Sure thing. Wrigleyville is an area within Lakeview, so it's kind of the area he was considering anyway.
Wicker Park may be worth checking out too. It's a bit more hipster but a great area.

I visited in Oct.
Pray tell what’s the least windiest month to visit so my beautiful head of hair stays in place?

Born and raised in NOLA, attended LSU and lived in NOLA after college (2002 grad) until this past November. The wife and I packed up and moved to Chicago in November.
Our move had nothing to do with jobs. We came here on a trip five years ago and fell in love and kept coming back. Finally decided it was now or never. Rented our house in NOLA out and moved everything else here.
I realize city life isn't for everyone, but we absolutely love it. This winter has been fairly mild and while at times, it can be cold as hell, I would honestly take it any day over the 40 years of South LA summers I went through.
There is an endless amount of stuff to do in this city. I'm shocked how anyone could be bored.
The public transportation is cheap and reliable. Cost of living is obviously higher than NOLA, but not nearly as much as one would think and compared to the NYC, LA, San Fran, Bostons of the world - this city is a bargain.
And the crime issue, so far as I can see, is very contained to areas of the city that the average person would likely never be in anyway.
And yes - Summers are amazing here. Nothing like walking around in June and July and it's mid 70s during the day as opposed to the 95 degrees I was used to. We spent a great deal of time here last Summer and were bummed to leave and ultimately, that sealed the deal for us.

I spent a week in Chicago in July, 2018. Stayed near Navy Pier. I enjoyed the trip very much. The architecture in downtown Chicago is really good and unique compared to other large cities. The food was good, and the museums and other tourist sites are world class. The public transport system (trains and buses) seemed inexpensive and efficient. I think it was $30 for a week of unlimited use of the system.

This winter has been quite mild - not that much snow and not many days that have dipped below 25 or so. Hopefully, that portends a warmer spring as well, but that isn't always the case. Spring is the worst/most unpredictable season in the city - some years it will start in earnest by late March and some years it won't start until mid May.
Last year's winter was brutal, though - be glad you missed it. In my time in Chicago, about half the winters have been really, really tough and about half haven't been bad at all.
