Who shops on vacation. Do you leave room in your luggage for shopping trip?

I’ve often come back with some art, oddball items, or a random piece of clothing from a boutique setting that I can’t just get on amazon or at the mall. I’m not talking hit Dillard’s and stock up on work shirts. But have been known to snag unique items along the way while between other activities.

Might shock you but a lot of tourists buy things: see magazine street in Nola, south congress in Austin etc...

True. I just dont see the appeal of "going shopping" on vacation. If I stumble across something maybe. But only if I cant get it at a later date back at home.

The Winter isn’t too bad unless you’re a softy. People up here know how to manage it, they layer up if needed. I had lots of learnings when I moved up here. There are only a few days a year that are colder than I care for, and I treat those days like Louisiana Summers, stay in as much as possible and if you have to go somewhere...deal with it. I would take a Chicago Winter over a Louisiana Summer all day every day. Like I said before, it’s all individual preference.
Whoever said Chicago is a War Zone has no clue. Try to look away from the picture media paints. Sure, there’s no shortage of crime, but it is very centralized to specific areas...kind of like Mall City back home...Ain’t no Pity in Mall City.

agree. chicago is probably safer for white people than any big city in the south.

Team Chicago here.

Chicago is a great city. People leave because they hate the winters not because it's boring.

Crime is bad in the rough parts of the city just like other big cities, like NYC and Philly. Even NOLA and BR have serious crime issues.

As for people who were born in Chicago and moved, doesn't mean anything. Look at NOLA: Harry Connick Jr, Wynton Marsalis, Dr. John, Ellen Degeneres, Louis Armstrong, The Neville bros, Louis Prima, Tyler Perry, Richard Simmons all left. Doesn't mean NOLA sucks. Sometimes people want a change.

Horrible fn OP Geekboy.

Lots of stuff to do but the best Chicago style pizza is made in Starkville.

Nothing is “best” in Starkville. I’d take Chackbay or Chalmette over Starkville.

I've been to Chicago a few times, it's clean city with plenty to do and everyone I came in contact with was friendly and helpful. I'd choose it over New Orleans any time. I wouldn't even compare the two in the first place.

The access to stores is limited If you aren't in Dallas, Houston, Chicago and New York. Plus women like to shop

It's not what I want to do but it's not all that complicated

NYC doesn't belong in the same conversation as nola in crime. You really needed to go looking for crime in New York city these days.

New York had 316 murders in 2019 and New Orleans had 120.

New Orleans needs to compare itself to Memphis, Baltimore and st Louis, not Chicago and NYC.

Aside from the river walk it's not really that great. Crime everywhere and people running around like a kicked over ant hill... Was not impressed.

Went a couple of summers ago and it was fantastic. Tons of art, music festivals, etc. Great architecture. Good food. And 70 degrees and breezy.

Can’t wait to go back.
