It’s difficult to compare cities because they’re all unique in their own right. I think most people leave Chicago because of the weather. It can be brutal.

Great food
Great architecture
Great museums
Great sports
Great shopping
Great festivals
Great public transportation
I can’t imagine living there bc of the weather year round, but a 4-5 day vacation in the spring/early fall is great. Going again in April.

If looking for a 4-5 day trip to get away it wouldn’t be my top spot but wouldn’t be upset if I saw it had the cheap/convenient flights available. Couple museums, some shopping, a few good meals, maybe a ball game or concert.
It’s big enough that not everything has to be great but the best things available will be high quality and it’ll have a broad spectrum of options.

Deep dish pizza?
I do see your point though. Of all the bigger cities, Chicago doesn’t have a ton of historical or tourist sights to see. Went awhile back and saw a cubs game and found a good pizza place. Went to that park and sears tower and walked around a bit. Was cold and windy in June. Pretty much ran out of stuff to do after 1-2 days so went to south bend for a day.
Nowhere near the history of ny, Boston, philly, dc, etc. on the east coast or the activities of a LA, SF, Vegas, etc on the west coast.
Chicago is a weekend trip city.

You can do that in an afternoon. But I love going there and go there often: great summer weather, water, within an hour of 3 mountain ranges, great set-up for Mariners games.

Chicago in the summertime is great. The architecture on the magnificent mile is fantastic. There are many different neighborhoods with distinct cultural identities. I do agree that it sucks during the winter time though
