The neighborhoods are what make Chicago unique. Each neighborhood has it’s own vibe with cool things about them.

NOLA people are truly insufferable.
Take "I'm a Whodat" video as evidence.

As someone who left Chicago for a warmer climate and lower taxes, this is a really weird thread. It’s a fantastic city.
I find it more aesthetically pleasing, cleaner, easier to manage, and generally much more enjoyable than NYC.
It’s my favorite city in the US, when strictly talking about the city and it’s neighborhoods.
Now if you want to talk about issues with living there, I can entertain that:
Weather. It’s fantastic 3 months a year, good 2 months, average/below average 3 months, and shitty for 4
Taxes/random fees and it’s only going to get worse, much worse as the city and state are functionally bankrupt
Corruption. Mike Madigan and his crew can die in a fire
Lack of interesting stuff with a reasonable drive. Lake is beautiful, but every other direction? Ugh. Outside Chicago, Illinois is Kansas level bad.

Absolutely loved Chicago when we visited there a few years ago. Still our family’s most fun vacation, though Washington DC is a very close second. So much to do, and most of it within a 5 or 10 minute cab ride. And the layout of the city is perfect.

The lake is beautiful with a public beach in the heart of downtown, it’s walkable and bikable with excellent public transit,
When I worked downtown, I used to jog to the beach at the end of the day for my beach volleyball games. Little known fact, Chicago has the most public beach volleyball courts in the country.
And for my boat baws, the playpen is in the Shadow of the John Hancock Tower.
Get that flats boat out there boys.

The Wisconsin Northwoods, Michigan lakes, and Lake Michigan shoreline?
Most of the stuff you can get to is definitely in the same vein. You're lucky because you're close to other major cities...Atlanta, Charleston, the mountains, coast and islands, etc.

I don’t find the Northwoods to be within a very reasonable drive on a summer Friday
I’ll take the mountains, the ocean, Asheville, and Charleston and can’t discount the fact that they can be enjoyed 12 months a year

Spent a week there last summer. First visit, and thoroughly enjoyed it . Hit up multiple museums and had some nice meals. The aquarium was great. Surprised how clean it was -- don't recall seeing a panhandler.
Couldn't live there though. Not a big city guy.

Chicago is a war zone.
I don’t blame anybody for getting the hell out for a better future for their families.

You list a few celebrities that left. What about all the born and bred people from Louisiana that head to Houston or Nashville or anywhere but NOLA as soon as they graduate LSU?
Is your first sentence in the OP implying NOLA>Chicago? If so, you already have your mind made up and are beyond seeing any reasoning.

Kind of already mentioned, Chicago fricking loves parks. I legit think it was a tactic that corrupt politicians used while they were stealing the city blind. It's something people can see and use, so they think the politicians are "making stuff" when they create a new park.
Lincoln Park, which surrounds the beaches, runs from just north of downtown for a couple miles up the shoreline. So basically the entire length of Lake Michigan is accessible to the entire city. It includes multiple harbors, fields/courts, the zoo, the lakefront path, driving range, and a bunch of other shite.
Fun fact...Lincoln Park is just about 50% bigger than Central Park. Suck it New York.
