"Without the protection offered by my bill it's like one member of a marriage deciding that they deserve all of the good furniture but want to leave behind the loans," the Baton Rouge Democrat said in a statement.
This is hilarious. She just admits that the white people pay all the bills for them.
Honestly, I'm in the camp that wishes St. George wouldn't happen, but respect the rights of the citizens in that area to break off if they vote for it (which they have). C'est la vie.
The mayor and her party have absolutely no one to blame but themselves and their divisive policy/rhetoric. Kip Holden would've kept Baton Rouge together.

Let's make no doubt, the St. George vote WILL affect BR parish.
However, as this will not directly impact any residents outside of the proposed St. George zone lines, I do not think allowing the larger surrounding majority to decide whether a smaller, isolated minority can or can not do a certain legal and precedented activity in their small, isolated area is ok.
To move away from financed furniture, imagine if the state of Texas demanded to be able to vote on the next Governor of LA...it will impact Texas, they're both in the same zone lines (United States of America) so why shouldn't they have a say?
What about the US, we impact all manner of global issues, should the whole world be able to vote on the US president?
Bottom line, St. George is not DIRECTLY impacting anything outside of their proposed lines and therefore regulating the vote to just that area is appropriate.
Losing rights to their monetary resources is not a direct impact and not a reason to be able to control what they can and can not do.

Using her stupid analogy BR seceded from EBR first, took everything EBR paid for and kept it.
How stupid is that!

This may be the straw that breaks the camels back for me if they pull this stunt. I’m willing to stay and give St George a chance. I want to stay, but I’m at my tipping point right now with the traffic nightmare. It might just be time for my wife and I to pack our shite and leave LA for good.

Is this even legal? Can they really change the rules midgame? What recourse do those in the proposed SG area have if they do follow through with this?

Isn't the legislature passing a law on how the vote can go down? Seems like that's the way things are supposed to work.

Ironically she represents a lot of SG folk. Her senate district extends out to Bayou Manchac and eastward towards CCL. District 14 includes
Lexington, Preserve At Harveston,
UClub, all the subdivisions along Bluebonnet etc.

So if it’s democracy and good and wholesome....why does it only apply to EBR parish?
And what are they supposedly succeeding from?

I honestly can't tell if she's legit this dumb or just thinks the majority of her constituents are too dumb to realize she's full of shite.

Why even bother with EBR? If you have to stay in the area because of work or family, move to a suburban parish. Things are only going to get worse. At some point you have to cut your losses and move on.

No it won't. From a parish perspective, the same taxes St. George pays to the parish now will remain the same.

'It's merely democracy'
democracy is apparently only worthwhile in a single parish

quote:No. They are proposing to change the way the vote would happen. As of now, only people in the proposed area can vote on the issue. This new bill wants to make an exception to that rule for any parish whose population exceeds 440K. Conveniently, EBR is the only parish in the state with a population over 440k. So really this bill only applies to this specific situation. All of this comes after the Governor delayed the vote at the wishes of Mayor Shithead Broome.

let me also add that a representative trying to force a vote by other representatives isn't even democracy
if she truly believed that this is "merely democracy" it would be proposed as a Constitutional amendment so the entire state could vote
why limit it to only the legislature?

Let's get rid of senate districts. We can have the whole state vote on all of the senators. It's just democracy.

Um... I hope you mean state senators

Smarter legislation would be to give St. George its own ISD.
