I obviously, and half jokingly took it to an extreme, but it still points out that just because a rule is put in place does not make it right. And yet again to be pointed out, he did follow the rule.

what I meant, in general is that part of the education process is learning what's worth falling on your sword over and what isn't, I have learned that there's very few worthwhile things, career wise, in life that do not have some sort of standards, rules/regs, education/continuing education requirements, if his objective is to grow hair and this is the battle he's chosen, good on him

I'll buy that, but until there is impetus to change that rule, it's still their rule, if the kid's rational, in a few years he'll look back and wonder what the big deal was, on their part and his, I remember rules that I thought were stupid when I was a kid and I realized how everything is temporary and dynamic, again, you have to learn how to prioritize, part of the learning process

I may have posted before I saw this but obviously someone at the school doesn't think he's in compliance, when I was a kid long hair was a big thing, I wanted long hair but I wanted to play sports more, when I got out of college long hair was still in but I wanted to fly fast jets more

Every year there is some kid who wants to do something that is against the hygene/dress code/ rules of the school and they make it out to be some racial or cultural issue. It is not. It is simply "here are the rules" that all the kids are following accept this kid. It is like prom season when one kid wants to wear a kilt and screams about how his culture is being oppressed, or the kid who has long hear, or the kid who wants to where shorts, etc. The school has rules follow them.

when I was in school there were two sets of rules for males hair length, one for gen pop and one for athletes
