I'll buy that, but until there is impetus to change that rule, it's still their rule, if the kid's rational, in a few years he'll look back and wonder what the big deal was,

I didn't take this from the article at all.

He says they changed the rule to prevent him wearing dreads down. So he puts his dreads up to comply with the rule. Now he's being told putting the dreads up to comply with the new rule isn't enough.

The school clearly comes off as the one moving the goalposts for the kid. They changed the rule to require people to not cover their neck. He put his hair up so it doesn't cover his neck.

I don't see how he's the one pushing this.

They changed the code in mid-school year.

A. That's a little bit chickenshit.

II. If it were me, I'd grandfather the kid and let him wear the dreads up for graduation and just let all the underclassmen know that they will be enforcing the new code, for true, come August.

But, that's way, way too reasonable for America in 2020.

I hate how everything these days is "racist". But, this is a school district with 3 percent black students, a rule change is made mid-year, the kid complies and still is told it's not good enough.

I wonder how many white students had long hair and cut it off when they came back this month.

Do they have the same hair length regulations for all male students? Yes: Then there is no problem. No: Then there is a problem.

But why does the school have different rules for males and females? Especially in today’s world when you can just claim to be either.

I hate school policies about hairstyles. They are pointless and usually very subjective.

I can understand a rule about hair color. Only Natural or neutral hair colors allowed, ie, no blue, orange, purple, green, etc. That at least makes some sense.

But for hairstyles, all it really comes down to is, I personally don't like this 1 specific hairstyle, so it is not allowed. But I actually like this hairstyle, so I'll allow it. Honestly, what damage is a student causing because he has his hair in dread locks. I understand that rules are rules, but when there are stupid rules in place they absolutely deserve to be called out.

Not to mention why the freak would they change the rule in the middle of the school year. At least do it over the summer so that the student and the family can have time to decide what would they like to do. It is not fair to ask someone who has been growing their hair out for years to all of a sudden cut it simply because the school decided last week that they no longer like the hairstyle.

Lastly, I saw that this is a public school. GTFO out with that. Public schools shouldn't make randon bs rules like that

It’s one of the best public school in TX.

Like others of said if the school board changed the rule mid-year then that’s pretty shitty. Just let the kid walk and enforce or totally change rules next year.
