what's the worst thing a kid has ever done in your class that they needed to be sent to principals office?.... that you let them get away with?

I am not the OP but I was once a teacher.

1) I had my students (1st graders) making Christmas cards to thank the people that gifted our class with some supplies. Little Josh was very into making his card as he decorated it.I picked up the cards afterwards and checked them.

Josh's card was beautiful and when you opened it he had written " Merry Christmas and thank you, you a-hole".

(I did bring it to the office but only so the secretary could have a good laugh too. She offered to buy it from me so she could send it to our a-hole principal.)

Josh was actually a good kid. So I asked him WHY he did that and he replied " I dunno why I do these thing Mrs G. They just gets in my brain sometimes".

2) I busted a student sending a note to another kid. So I unfolded it and read it. It said " frick you. You is a BIRCH". She misspelled bitch, lol. I just laughed and told her that she just called another student a tree.

What's your favorite part about the job? When did you decide you wanted to be a teacher?

People that know me irl could probably agree... I do really well relating and I have a bunch of patience with them. I really really enjoy kids

My favor part is when a student has a lightbulb moment, meaning something they previously did not understand they start to understand

This reminds me of something that happened in HS. I remember the class I was in so it was my senior year. I sat all the way in the back of the first row.. There was this girl, who kinda thought she was a lot "cooler" with people than she really was. She was the type who know one really knew much about until her senior year then all of a sudden going out on the weekends her senior year. Anyway, so at the end of the next row on side of her, was this dude I been knowing since elementary school.

The girl would always ask him to pass notes to some girl who sat close to him, on the other side.. So one day he wrote a poem about the girl and it was incredibly mean, but at that point in life, it was really funny. He gave it to her and asked her to give it to me.. Kind of mocking her. The teacher heard her calling me to give me the "note" so by the time I looked over to grab it, the teacher was right there.

The teacher thought she was going to embarrass us by reading the leader to the class. She starts reading and the first sentence had the girl's name in it and it gave a good idea of what the rest of it was about.. After the teacher read the first sentence she kind of stood there in shock.. She reads the rest of it... By the time the whole class, expect the girl, who couldn't hold back her tears, started laughing..

Teacher tears up the poem, calls the girl to her desk and consults her for a few mins. Then calls me and the guy who wrote it, to her desk, sent us to the office and we both got in school suspension.. and I didn't even do nothing. I did feel bad for the girl, but once I got in school I thought she was an idiot for because her calling my name made the teacher thing I was more involved than I was.

I know.. I know tl;dr..

But this reminded me of that story.

Parents are bad, two parents who never graduated HS expect their child to be a 4.0 student. When their child is not a 4.0 student it is the teachers fault. Forget those parents can't even help their child with 4th grade ELA/Math.

Do teachers get drug tested?

While I do think teachers are underpaid I believe they should raise the standards. A teaching degree is the equivalent of a general studies degree. Raise the standards and then raise the pay.

But you said it yourself earlier in the thread: shitty parents make for shitty students. Education makes up for a pretty significant portion of our taxes. What's the point of making it more expensive when it won't make a difference for the worst of our students?

Why do teachers just treat their job as a 9-5 rather than actually teaching kids stuff that they need to learn for life?
