My wife retired from teaching 2 years ago. My life is a happy one now. Teachers are way underpaid for what they have to deal with.

I'm sorry I've never had a thing for 7-12 year olds

While I do think teachers are underpaid I believe they should raise the standards. A teaching degree is the equivalent of a general studies degree. Raise the standards and then raise the pay.

As an educator you are asking me to spend 182 days with this student, I should be able to determine if the students gets it or doesn't. I should be able to provide commentary on each student yearly to determine advancement.

What other field did you fail in first to become a teacher?

I didn't fail, I made a choice to become a teacher. If I decided to do something else I'm positive I could do it. I teach because I believe in education

Do you read the entire evaluation out loud to the parents during parent teacher conferences? I would personally prefer a subjective scale about how you feel about my child. "Your kid is great" or "your kid is a little shite".

Can your students solve this math problem?

EDIT: Dammit, I should have read the thread. I'm gonna go sit in the corner and wear the dunce cap now.

No I do not, I usually only highlight two things their child does well and two thing their child needs to improve on.

I think they should bring back spankings... Or make it where a student sat in the office until a family member arrived to spank a child. Too often children say, "if you yell at me or touch I'm going to have you arrested" teachers have very little power now
