Yeah, if you own a motorcycle and never drive it on roads with cars

In Texas as well, happened to me a few years back on a back road full of oil field traffic, lucky I was in a Tahoe and not on a two wheeler. Clipped the turning truck pulling a trailer without lights and went for a ride through the bar ditch at 70+, took out several signs but stayed upright by some miracle, totaled the tahoe but I was unhurt after airbags came out all around me. Oil Co insurance paid everything, pretty sure they were just glad I didn't lawyer up. Had a bike when I was younger, no way I'd ride one now a days, don't trust the other drivers.

Truck is lucky its a no passing zone. If it was legal to pass, the truck would be liable, at least in LA. You have an obligation to make sure no one is passing you when turning left in a passing zone.
I want to read that law for myself. Sounds like bullshite.

I mean, if any state is gonna have some backass law like that it’s gonna be us

This is the problem for 'normal' riders, and which didn't exist as much back in the day. It's like a nascar race on the freeways with tailgating, speeding, not signaling. Couple that with texting, etc. and no thank you.

What percentage of people driving around are on their phone?
Sounds like that's the problem then. We're not strict enough on distracted driving.
Texting and driving is more dangerous than drunk driving. IMO, we need to punish phone usage while driving more strictly than drunk driving.

I knew an ER doctor that once told me she was strongly in favor of the helmet law for motorcyles
I was pretty surprised when I moved to Florida several years back, to learn they have no helmet laws. I guess they cater to Bike Week and Biketoberfest.

Sorry this happened. Do you feel like you need to see a counselor? A lot of people do when they have such a dramatic experience. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you to ease your pain.

Riding a motorcycle like a fricking moron with no regard for you or other peoples safety is stupid and incredible dangerous.
I've been a long time motorcycle owner/rider and have been hitting the roads for 48 years now. I've seen my share of idiots on 2 wheels, and most of them are the crotch rocket type of young guys who think they are better riders than they really are.
Some of the worst cases I've seen were when riding in the twisties of 2 lane mountain roads. I can't tell you how many times those idiots would come out of nowhere and blow by me on my cruiser, often in hairpin turns, putting themselves and everyone else in danger.
The fact many of the crotch rocket type bikes come off the showroom floor with the capability of doing 150 mph in their stock configuration is a recipe for disaster for many riders. It is almost a certainty a new rider will not be able to handle what the bike is capable of doing because they simply don't have the ability yet, and that is where they get into bad situations.

I’ve only been doing it for 35 years.
If you notice, it’s usually only the young guys you see riding like this kid in the OP. The reason you don’t see old guys like myself doing thing like that is you don’t get to be and old biker by riding like that. Either you learn or you die. And yes, I know I can be killed riding home this afternoon. But people die everyday in cars, trucks, or even sitting on the shitter in their home. We’re all going to die unless Jesus comes back before we do. You have the choice to either enjoy your life or just sit around waiting to eventually die. It’s up to you.

I know tgere are several Dallas posters here. I can hear crotch rockets on the Tollway sitting on my sofa. I don't live by the Tollway. And when I am driving on it at night, it's almost a given to see a few pass me like I'm sitting still. 100++.

I saw a motorcycle smashed up on I-49 yesterday near sunset. Not sure if the guy lived or not but the motorcycle was mangled and underneath a truck.
apparently he had moderate injuries.

Holy shite.
I'm tired of my car. Next time I'm behind someone in a passing zone turn their blinker on I'm overtaking them.
fricking brilliant.

Going just by the pic you posted, the guy in the truck ran up the motorcyclist's arse.

Sad, but it sounds like he was riding like an idiot. That sucks for his family.
Without reading 4 pages, is this where people that have never rode tell everyone about bikes?

I helped save a woman's life 2 years ago. She and her husband were riding a honda motorcycle and hit some loose gravel on I-24 leaving Chattanooga toward Nashville. They fell and slid right in front of me. They both slid into the Obama cabling and each hit a stanchion upright.
He broke his neck. I know because I felt it pop hard while bracing his back and neck rolling him over to perform CPR. She broke her neck, busted her knee and hip pretty bad. The guy died there before the ambulance made it and she was airlifted to the hospital.
All pretty gruesome with the blood and chunks of flesh missing and mangled from the stanchion hit.
One guy that stopped to help was riding a motorcycle. I don't know how he had the courage to get back on his motorcycle and keep riding. I would have been pretty shook to do that.
I swore to my wife, I would never ride again.

How old are you? I saw my first man die a violent death when I was twelve. That was the day my balls dropped, my voice changed, and started shaving.
