re: Saw a dude get killed this morning

A good friend of mine was stopped at a red light on his Harley and a woman distracted by her kids in the backseat drilled my friend from behind. Broke his hip, fricked up his right leg and it took several surgeries and months of rehab just to get him back to somewhat normal. He still walks with a limp and he still rides even after all of that.

Sounds like that's the problem then. We're not strict enough on distracted driving.

Sounds like bullshite.
Because it probably is.

Saw a dude on a crotch rocket passing 2 cars and a gravel truck in a no pass zone in a construction zone. Unfortunately for him, the traffic had slowed because the truck was taking a left into a makeshift construction parking lot.
That law wouldn't apply, even if it was a passing zone.

I saw a man killed on a motorcycle accident when I was 10. He got rear ended by a big hoopty mobile, wasn't wearing a helmet and flew through the car in front, and smashed his head on the truck. it was horrific thing to see. I can still close my eyes and see the whole thing.

Not to try hijack your thread but a few years ago I was having something welded back together on my utility trailer. The guys shop was just before a curve on a rural road. Guy comes FLYING by on his motorcycle, well over 100mph, fails to make the curve and runs off the road and hits a 5 strand barbwire fence. He was cut into three large pieces. It was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen, and I wish I could get that image out of my head.

I have literally zero sympathy for the dudes on crotch rockets acting like idiots.
I agree and they put everyone else in danger too! A couple years ago a friend of mine was in a bar around midnight and heard several of these crotch rockets screaming through town (like 25 and 35 mph zones). Just minutes later a lady ran back into the bar she just left crying hysterically, her boyfriend was crossing the street in a pedestrian cross walk and one of the bikers hit him doing over 100mph. Both bodies ended up several yards away down the road, both dead and the boyfriend had multiple severed body parts. Sounded just sick and sad to hear that story, and was completely avoidable if not for idiot riders that don't respect the rules or the machine.

Funny thing is that it sure as hell looked like the truck driver was taking pics. That's a ridiculously morbid thing for him to do
Not really. Insurance, liability reasons

Is it legal in Bama to ride between cars on the interstate? It is out here. Guys on bikes fly by me every day in traffic. Makes me scared to even change lanes sometimes because those guys come out of nowhere.

Without reading 4 pages, is this where people that have never rode tell everyone about bikes?

You can be the most capable motorcyclist alive and still be no match for the soccer mom changing lanes without signaling while on the phone and eating a hamburger.

. I can hear crotch rockets on the Tollway sitting on my sofa.
Same here. I live 2 blocks from I-10 running through N.O. and Wed. night is bike night at a bar on Jefferson Hwy., which is several miles from my house.
However, when some of those guys are heading home, or out for some riding after a few beers, I can hear them tearing up the interstate and there is a sound barrier wall built next to it by my house. It is obvious they are the crotch rocket types just by the sounds the engines are making with kicking up high revs as they speed past.

I'm a fairly experienced rider and this is why I don't ride on the street anymore. Had to lay my bike down a few times and some of my friend were not so lucky.

I don't ride a motorcycle.
My point is, as long as we don't punish cell phone use as severely as it needs to be, roads will be dangerous for everyone.

On a related note, man steers motorcycle with his feet. Florida, of course. Video at link LINK
Indian Larry, a custom bike builder out of New York had a trademark thing he did for years where he'd run down the road and get up and stand on his seat while heading down the highway.
Well, as many times as he did it, it only took one time for him to die from falling off the bike and suffering fatal injuries.
Never understood doing stuff like that just for shits and giggles.
ETA: The guy in the video link is a total idiot for that maneuver. No shirt, shorts, no shoes, no helmet, riding with his feet on the bars while laid back like he's in a recliner at home.
Hope he's at least an organ donor.

I saw that coming back from NOLA once. Dude and his motorcycle fought the retention cables in the median. Retention cables one, dude on motorcycle zero.

I remember that guy. He was on a build off show a couple times. He built some badass bikes. I had no clue this happened and it happened almost 15 years ago
