I see this comment all the time and I’ve got to ask - what does one do with this information?

This is by far the worst “Cat 2” damage I have ever seen

The difference between a strengthening storm vs a weakening one is incredible right?

Hell even it's holding steady it doesn't do this. Strengthening storms bring more of the wind down to the surface and way more of an area will get the high end TS and hurricane force winds. Plus it means you'll get more of those big gusts.

People that expect total accuracy in track and intensity with humans trying to predict mother nature are setting their expectations way too high. I really appreciate you guys that do these storm threads and I've learned a lot over the past couple seasons. Like you said, one factor, like forward speed, can change the dynamics of the storm.

Forecasters always want to be better and it's good to go back through and see why things didn't go as projected at points. How else do you learn from the experience and hopefully be a little better in the future for it?

quote:

I think my biggest surprise with this storm was the intensity. I don't live in the coast so I'm not checking every single update like I would if I lived on the coast. I was in here skimming yesterday after lunch and the prevailing thought was she was breaking up a little.

Despite setting the ceiling right for a high end Cat 2 in my head early, I totally missed on how much it would strengthen last night. I was thinking 90 mph and down to like 972-973 mb. Despite models showing it too, didn't expect it to close off the eye so soon and thought there would be enough upwelling to limit it if it did.

Intensity forecasts will kick your arse if you make enough (like more than two) of them.

Have stayed in many homes in FtMorgan over the years. Never could figure out how people thought that Vinyl siding would withstand significant winds. Also some big time failures on those metal roofs.

They should use the battleship in Mobile to sink the barge just because it’d be awesome

Did we get a resolution to the barge issue or is it still moving towards I-10?

Had to see a patient so couldn’t keep up with the thread.

Someone said in this thread the yesterday or Monday that a category 2 hurricane probably would not cause widespread power outages. Now, most of Baldwin County, AL doesn’t have power. More than 500,000 power outages in Alabama and Florida.

Someone reported in this thread that it ran aground before reaching the I-10 bridge.

The people of the OT have “friends” who can find out who you are, what your background is and where you live. Want everyone to know that?

I’m wondering how the guy sitting on a bridge support column is ... there was some room for water to rise but not a ton.

I can hear I-10 from my house. That road pic I posted is literally underneath I-10
