As a part time Uber driver, I don't really care who is getting in the car, I just try to put on some music that I like and that I think won't bother the rider. If the rider has a problem with it/asks me to change it, I will change it, but that happens very rarely. However, the biggest tip I've ever gotten ($100) was when I let one of the passengers control the music for a short ride. When Taylor Swift's show was in town, though, I did try to play more Swift music for the Swifties.
My guess is that there are no bad intentions from the uber drivers, they either just like rap music, or think it's more likely to lead to a tip. Those same uber drivers who think it will lead to a better tip probably put on country music when they think someone will like country music more. I really try not to assume bad intentions and think that the uber driver probably is trying to get a better tip/any tip out of a ride.
