It was a stupid irrational statement. It deserves ridicule.

I feel like they were trying VERY hard to be "diverse" more than anything. Maps at #1 and JayZ and Olivia Rodrigo in the top 10 out of thousands of songs?! Come the frick on

A couple other minor gripes - Welcome to the Black Parade should be higher, possibly even #1. And where's Could Have Been Me by The Struts? The one Taking Back Sunday song you choose ISN'T Cute Without the E?

Some young retards made this list

You cannot convince me there is a single human on the planet who has ever been a fan of U2 based solely on their music and not because they think it makes them look worldly and politically correct.

Unpossible.

If you've ever been to or watched a football game, you've heard "Seven Nation Army". It is impossible to avoid.

In my simple mind I was only considering "hard" rock bands

I forgot that soft rock exists and there's also alternative so it makes the list a little more understandable

I would consider a lot of those songs to be pop music which I guess can be rock?

*and before anyone says something, I despise Five Finger Death Punch

I’ve never heard of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and have never heard that song.
Does that say more about me or the list?

Old U2 had some good music

New U2 has sucked for a long time and Beautiful Day is a lame arse song that doesn't deserve to be ranked at all

Love that song along with Zip City, and Ronnie and Neil from that album. Marry Me is as good a DBT pick as any imo.

I'm 66 and have been a fan of U2 since they first came on the scene when I was 20.

They haven't always been pretentious assholes.

You're correct, but it went viral with the Gen Z crowd a couple years back due to some TikTok trend.

It's been a cult classic for a long time. I remember when it came out Alt Nation on XM Radio used to play it non stop.

It's a good song, but I could listen to it once every 10 ears and that be enough. Being #1 is a joke.

This board cracks me up. Everyone who I know who likes some of their music (including me) likes it despite their doucheyness.

Rolling Stone offices must be one thick cloud of dope smoke.

That's what jumped out to me - they actually have a lot of the right artists on there if you exclude that they somehow randomly threw in the random hip hop and folk / country entries (like Childers, who is one of my favorites in any genre but he does not belong on a rock list).

Drive-By Truckers probably have like 3 - 5 songs that belong on this list. "Marry Me" isn't even in their top ten songs. Then Isbell probably has another 3 - 5 on his own that belong on this list and they've got a filler song that isn't even in his top 20.

Keep going down the list, and it's the same over and over - right artist, wrong song(s). The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are another example: "Maps" is a good song but definitely not their best song. Same for MGMT, Arcade Fire, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, White Stripes, Black Keys, Kings of Leon, Sturgill Simpson, on and on - right artists, wrong songs.

It's obviously indefensible in its own right, but if they're going to do this, how do they not do any Taylor Swift songs? Just absolute clown shite. But we're talking about it, so I guess they won.

I also despise Five Finger Death Punch.

Foo Fighters is borderline "hard" rock, IMHO. I think of them a "power pop". Too me, "hard" rock is more like AC/DC.

The White Stripes are definitely some form of rock. I categorize them as being on the hard side of grunge / garage.

How do you feel about Nine Inch Nails? "Only" should have been in the top 25 IMHO.
